Where are you from? I'm from W.I. Good luck. I second the advice about getting out of there. It's becoming a tough place to survive. I predict that within 20 years or so Long Island will have only rich people and poor people. I'm not on the rich list, and you probably aren't either. Socialism is working great in NY.

Welcome from a fellow Islander, good luck with your future goals. Although it is very tough to make it into one of the LI depts, it definately is possible. Like others said though never put your eggs in one basket if LE is truly your goal. There are plenty of great PD's out there all across the country. Personally for me, I left the Island when I was younger and lived down south for 12 years. I never felt like I was "home" down there though and am happy as hell to be back.

I'm surprised people are still answering this. It's been a little while, but a welcome is a welcome! California is looking pretty nice, but I'm not sure if I want to move.

It's not Socialism more than it is 'white flight'. We do have very high taxes though and the left coast is looking very good for prospective LEO's since they have the highest population, so the most need for them.
