A big hello to all forum members! :D
I'm a graduate student of sociology (and psychology) and I'm researching police culture for my term paper. I figured this would be a good place for it.
I've been doing a lot of traditional book and real life research as well, including about twenty ride-alongs in twelve different departments. But an online law enforcement community could add a lot. It's kind of a chance to observe without getting off the couch. ;)
I'm 23, female, love Aretha, that's why the screen name (plus what I've come to realize: whenever you have two or more people standing next to each-other you've got a chain of fools...just an observation), hate black olives with a passion, am fairly even-keeled other than that. Some might disagree. OK, this kinda sounds like a personal ad. Not intended that way. :P
Prior law enforcement experience:
* Dated a cop for three years in college. Great guy. Still love him to death, but our lifestyles just didn't mesh too well. And let's be honest, he just didn't want to pay my way through grad school. ;) Can't blame him for it either.
* When I was a kid, one summer some law enforcement agency (must have been federal, I guess) rented a room in my parents' hotel for whatever they were doing (never did find out). I vividly remember my mom telling some guy in a suit: "Fine, but you pay double the rate," and then pointing at me and my brothers: "and don't expect ME to keep them kids out of your hair!" I guess mom got her money and they even provided a babysitter whose sole purpose was to keep me and my siblings from screwing anything up in our curiosity. So he put us on "special undercover detail" to make us feel special and more importantly, keep us out of their way. Kids are so easy to fool...
* Other than that, only got pulled over twice. No tickets though.
'nough said. :D
