I am located in California. I am 20 years old, and looking for a job in the Central Valley, Bay Area, or up North.
My experience is as follows, I have been working around 2 years, as plain clothes Loss Prevention for Sears with plenty of arrests under my belt.
I have 2 more classes and will have my Associates Degree in Criminal Justice by June of 2009.
I will be 21 in July of 2009 and possibly looking at putting myself through the Police Academy in that summer.
When I graduate the academy in winter I can start applying and hopefully get on by 22 or 23 years of age.
Should I apply when I am 21 or wait because I heard that most departments do not like to hire "KIDS" meaning a fresh 21 year old as they do not have much life experience

I am reluctant to apply now because, I want to have my AS degree completed so I can say I at least have that in combination with my experience as loss prevention.
I know a degree is not required, but at a bare minimum, a 2 years degree helps a great deal with the selection process as we all are aware of.
I know I will be competing against other applicants with far greater experience than me.
That aside, I have a decent backround, but not a perfect one.
I recieved a few traffic citations back in highschool and tried marijuana around 3 to 5 times in highschool.
