    First off, welcome to RP

That is comparing apples to oranges. I will tell you depending on the job you pick if you join the service, that you can pursue a degree. I finished mine While I was in.This is not 100% for sure, you could deploy like I did. I was lucky and had it done before hand. I am not saying to do on or the other though .You will have to weigh you options. Visit the recruiter’s office, even at your age you can go on activities with Marines and the recruiters. This will give you the chance to talk things over, and learn a little bit about it.Talk to your local police Departments about what colleges offer a good program. Although, If you do choose the service, make sure you bring a parent with you when going over things with the recruiter. Again, I served and have been in college on the outside also. This is really up to you; I don’t think anyone here can make that choice for you. College is great as well, many departments require degrees. Again, you have plenty of time.

Also, I would advise you to go after a degree right along with the service, as the new gi bill pays 100% of college and 1800 living stipend a month while going to school. They got rid of the max, so if you wanted to go to University of Michigan, and stay on campus, its 100% paid with your 1800 a month.

I must tell you again that I am not pushing one or the other, I am simply giving you some insight I what is possible. Just because they are offering all this neat new GI Bill stuff YOU WILL EARN IT. And remember, if your joining the service just for a paycheck don't join the Marines. You can make it much easier elsewhere.

Going into the military AND getting a degree will get you up on a few of the other candidates that will be applying along with you.

Investigate all military branches. Don't decide on your future because of a television commercial. If you live near any military base ,see if there is a way you can visit and shadow.

    Army MP

    Marines MP

    Air Force Security Forces

    Navy Master at Arms

Coast Guard ( not sure what they call it)

And dont forget checking out the Reserves or National Guard as some of them offer programs to PAY FOR YOUR COLLEGE while serving as a weekend warrior.

Don't let the hype or bravado of any military branch be THE reason you join. Each has it's advantages and disadvantages. You will become what you make of your enlistment regardless of the branch you pick.
