    Any Utah officers?

I normally reside in Salt Lake City, however, I am in school in Calgary right now for a year. It will be another two to two in a half years until I graduate (with a finance degree). I just turned twenty last week, and when I go back home and graduate, I want to begin my career in law enforcement in the city I grew up in. Two agencies I'm going to apply for will be the Salt Lake City Police Department and the Salt Lake County Sheriff. I was just wondering if anyone is from the area and could provide me with information on the ins and outs of the differences, advantages/disadvantages of the two departments. I will schedule a ride along with both departments when I return to Salt Lake City to learn a little, I'm sure it will help.

    Thank you in advance.

Don't have too much info on either. What I can tell you is SLCPD is always hiring, but only pick a handful each time. They are pretty picky too. If you have had ANY drug history, even Rx meds, forget it. Also, don't waste your time sponsoring yourself through POST if you think you have a good shot. They have their own Academy.

County seems to be slowly losing their areas because the cities they cover are starting to get their own departments. Potentially leaving them with only incorporated areas like Parley's and out West on 80. However, good luck with getting on as a Deputy. Everytime I see them recruiting it's for Jailers and Protective Service Officers.

WVCPD is hiring pretty frequently too. They pick up a ton of officers. They get into a LOT of action pretty quickly. A buddy of mine that I went through POST with was on a felony stop first night on FTO.

Troops are constantly hiring too. I'd suggest them, but I'm biased.
