All I have done so far is take the written test (scored 96% not including the residency credit). Am waiting to hear from the NYPD to start the background check process.
Am also trying to figure out how the salary and nature of the job will fit in with my marraige.

Yeah, I am aware of the low academy salary. My wife and I are working out what our upcoming 5 year plan is. If she goes back to grad school full time this year it will be difficult for both of us to live on the $25K. We've saved so it's not impossible, just difficult. If she just switches jobs, then I'm in like flynn.
I'm more concerned with the lifestyle adjustment. Shift work with no weekends is very different from the typical M-F 9-5, especially when your work schedules do not coincide.
