Hey everyone, Have couple ?s.

First off I just want to say that this forum is great. It's definitely a site that I will add to my favorites. I live in Daytona Beach, Fl and ready to fulfill my dream to become a cop. I'm twenty years old and I just handed in my app for the police academy over here. Couple concerns I have is that I have done couple things in my life that I do regret. In the application for the academy they asked me if I have ever done drugs and have I ever been associated with any sale of drugs. I did disclose the information truthfully in the app, but I was wondering if any one knows if this will disqualify me. I've smoked pot no more then 8 times in my life. That's the only drug I have done, also I have been in the same room during a drug deal which was pot total of two times. Any info to me would be very helpful and thanks in advance.

G'day from Australia and as for your question, even though I'm not a US LEO, I've read this question once or 100 times in the past few years and the reply seems to be summed up with ~

"It depends on the dept."

Welcome to RP.

The best answer that I can give you beyond Kazz'z answer is that ...

1. Time is your friend. The longer since you LAST used the better. A lot of dept's have a 2-3-4-5 year mimimum clean time sinceyour last toke.

2. Are you still hanging out with those that use ? If yes, then you havn't really changed nor do you REALLY want to get into LE.

3. Any usage will always cause a bruise and will be compared against other candidates that are clean.

4. You are not a lost cause but what good attributes do you have to offer us thaty would make us WANT to hire you ?

Military ? College ?

Thanks for all your responses and help. Last time I did any of this was bout 2 almost 3 years ago when I was a stupid high school kid. No I do not hang out and affiliate with any of those people still. Sorry for the late follow up... I've been working long hours. Thanks again.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Florida requires POST certification as well. I know Minnesota does, have heard that FL is the only other state where it's required.
(POST = Peace Officer Standards and Training)
You might wanna look into that before applying, I could be wrong though.
