Hey my name is James alot of people call me Tex, Iam active duty military crew chief on c-130 cargo planes and have been in over 6 yrs and about to get out and go Texas State Trooper if they will have me. I get the nickname Tex because I am from the great state of TEXAS and miss it. I can wait to get back. I joined this forum to get more info on how things are in the cop/trooper world out there so I can get an idiea on what to expect. So any info or tips will be great or even where to get study material to try and get ahead of the game. This is a cool forum and excited about what the future hold s for me. Laterz

Welcome, and thank you for your service to our great country.
We have a member here who is now going thru the DPS academy. He usually only posts about once a week. Hopefully he will give you some first hand insight.
My father was with DPS, but that was waaaay back in the day. I get to their academy every two years for my CHL instructor renewal. I can tell you that they are a first class organization, with modern training, equipment and tactics.

So far everything i have read about them is awesome and every state trooper i have ever talked to in any state loves there job. thanks guys...I hope to build some friendships on here TEX

Hey tex, I have taken the written and I Passed the background I have taken the oral board and just waiting on the letter for my next step in austin. From what the trooper said who walked me out I should be hearing something positive really quickly. Ill be in the March Academy if I get accepted. If I get in Im going to need everyones support also yall are all doing a great job with encouragement for MC White. Goodluck with your process....if you have any questions let me know,ill try to answer them as I go.
