How's everyone doin? Just checkin in to say hi. Found this website through google while looking for information on the process of becoming an officer. I don't really know what to do with my life and since I seem to enjoy trying to help everyone with their problems and whatnot, I figure'd why not look into being a police officer?

Well, I thought about it and then I saw a cop walk by and I said "Hey, I could be a cop!?". So I thought about it for about a day then said "Sure, why not"! So I quit as a Doctor and took the first LEO job that came along.

Normally we get people come here asking,

"I had 2 DUI's and one small incident where I was busted doing weed. Can I still be a cop?" :D

A bit more info re your background might be able to help re some advice.

If you have never been in trouble and are not in debt and hang around good people, and are basically the pick of the bunch, then you should have a lot less hassles getting into LE than others.

Flick through Ask-A-Cop threads, use search and research a lot on this site and most of the answers to any questions about becoming a cop might be answered. If they are not, then ask away. :D

Any background info into yourself that you are willing to disclose here, will assist us in giving you the right advice for your circumstances.

No offense meant BUT MANY that come here wanting to get into our profession have some sort of background issues that could very likely impact them getting hired.

Everyone got a ticket or two ( I did) prior to getting hired. Some are outright thieves or drunkards.

Ahh ok sure thing, and no offense taken don't worry haha.

Ok so I guess here goes. I have never done drugs in my life. I have never even taken a puff of a ciggarette. I drink from time to time (I'm 20) but its very rare. If I do I drink to get drunk because otherwise I don't see a point in just having a drink or two, especially since most of the time I have to drive home and last thing I need is any kind of trouble over a stupid couple of shots. If I do plan on drinking I make sure I can spend the night at the location and usually pull one of the terminals off the battery.

I come from a well grounded home. My family immigrated here from Argentina in 1992. I was born in the capitol, Buenos Aires in 1987. I have strong morals and more respect for people then peers my age. This is soley due to the fact that I have wonderful hardworking parents. They sacrificed so much when we moved here but thanks to that and their persistance my mom was able to start her own business providing home care service for elders. My father recently opened up his own company as well, doing the same but privately funded not state funded like my moms.

I also feel that a good reason that I am as mature as I am for my age is that I have much older siblings then the normal person. I am 11 years apart from my closest sibling, 17 apart the next and 18 years apart from my sister, so as a child I saw them and took after them as well.

Most of my friends will describe me as having a good heart and being a very caring person. Thats the reason I feel that I would enjoy this job. Yes I know there is alot of risk involved at any given time, but I am the kind of person that tends to put others ahead of themselves. I really do enjoy helping people and it makes me feel good inside. I also don't hang around bad crowds. I stay as far away as possible from any illegal activities as I can.

I figure I have a few options. I can become some kind of Network IT for a big company and hate my job. I can become a programmer and hate my job, or I can do something to help the community. Not only that but I know it would make my dad proud, and for those of you that have older siblings that have always been in the spotlight you know what I'm talking about. Not to mention from what I've been told by my cousin (Local LEO in CT) the benefits and whatnot is great, so knowing that I will have a financially secure future for when I have a family is good as well.

As for the crimes I commit...I talk on my cell phone while driving. Thats about it.


So yeah...Cliff notes:

I don't do ANY drugs, or ever have.
Only offenses ever commited and caught for was 2 cases of speeding.
I come from a grounded South American family with strong morals.
I like helping people.

Sounds good, what states are you looking at? Just so ya know, some states pay better then others. Let me know if I can be of any help

Well asides Argentina, I've lived all my life in Connecticut. The only family I have in this country which consists of my parents, siblings, their spouses and children all live in CT so I'd prefer to stay in CT. I don't know yet whether I will go towards State Police or Local. I guess when the time gets closer I'll look at the Pro/Con's of both and see which is better for me. Definately want to stay in CT though thats for sure.
