Heyy, the names Alex. I'm a roxbury police explorer from nj. I'm 15 years young, and expecting to be a police officer someday in the future. I know all of the core values and all the deadly errors. i know all the basic police information like Neighborhood watch programs and motor vehical stops and search and arrests and all that good stuff. hopefully get to get to know you all in the future. see ya!

RPDE ALEX, It's good that you know the basics but keep in mind that everything takes experience. Like mscap said, book learning is only half of the battle. You could read about the basics of LE work for a hundred years but it wouldn't take the place of experience. Experience makes it muscle memory and when it's muscle memory you do it without thinking and thus is faster then thinking of what to do and then doing it.

An FBI agent once told us that he had to draw his gun 3000 times in a row to be able to do it with muscle memory.

ROS: We learn a lot about what police officers do sir, very often they teach us a whole bunch about what they do. However, I would say knowing "all" the basics is probably pushing that knowledge.

Edit: Another thing, there's no way you could know all the basics. It takes experience.

I'm not ignorant to what a police explorers programs generally entail, patrick. ;)

I still stand by my previous statement to the original poster, as I doubt very serious anyone in or around this profession knows "all" there is to know, much less a non-LEO.
