Hello to all.

I was referred to this forum by Norm357 from another. I've said it before but it's worth doing again, I owe him much thanks for bringing realpolice.net to my attention.

I've been actively pursuing a career change to LE since June.

I have a BA in secondary education, an MA in my content area and ten years of teaching experience. In college I was a security officer for five school years. Toward the end of my fourth year I became the director of security and that lasted through the end of my fifth and final year. For most of the time we were uniformed security but that was about it (not armed, no baton, pepper spray, hand cuffs, etc.). In many ways it was small potatoes. I did oversee 20+ part time officers. I was in charge of hiring, training, scheduling, leading weekly meetings, overseeing duties, etc..

At that time I thought long and hard about police work but ultimately figured that since I had such an investment of time, money and energy put into a teaching career I would stick with it. I have come to see that my talents, abilities and interests would be put to better use in Law Enforcement. So, I'm putting as much energy as possible into becoming an officer.

I don't have experience at an academy or the military, which is definitely working against me. I don't think it's an impossible endeavor but wish "breaking in" was easier. In time, if things aren't working out, I might be able to figure out a way to put myself through an academy.

I live in St. Louis but am applying in south WI since that's where I'm from and my family still lives.

Not knowing anything about you, and going soley off of your education and teaching experience alone, you'd make a competitive candidate. Well at least where I'm from (New England). That's the opinion from a new hire. :cool:
