    Hi from swamp Pascagoula!

    Hi,
Before I blab about myself I have a question, I've come to this forum a whole lot in the past because it's such a great information place but I have never registered, somehow yesterday when I tried to register I already had an account! I guess I will go ahead and use this one as it has my email address and all. My question is weather I can change my name or not. I would like to capitalize it.

    Okay, about me:
I live in Pascagoula/Mississippi and my house like many others was mauled by hurricane Katrina. There's a long story connected to me, my family, and Katrina.

Pretty much all my life I have wanted to do something in Law Enforcement. When I was younger I was always awed by police officers and admired them. I've thought about the Coast Guard and the military but always came back to the police. I'm very interested in drugs ( ) (WAIT! WAIT! DON'T MISUNDERSTAND!) I like to read about the symptoms and all about them. I find them very interesting. I always write out the information afterwards and it helps me to remember a lot.

I don't really think that I would be happy or content as a regular police officer. I think that I would really like to join the US Marshals; or go into an investigating branch of Law Enforcement.

I'm 14 and I am a police explorer, unfortunately, LT. Smith (who is our overseer) has heart trouble and he's been in the hospital a few times before he's back in again due to some more trouble. :(

Because of his health he will (extremely Reluctantly) quit the reserves and if he can't find someone else to give control to then he will stop the program. :( The only option that I know of is an FBI agent with an unpronounceable name. :p

I have two brothers and three sisters. We also have six goats and a lot of chickens. I take care of all the chickens needs! I even travel through muddy and slippery territory to lock them up in their coop at night so that they will be safe from the raccoons, possums, and other creatures of the night. It used to be that two big blackish hawks would terrorize the yard during the day and eventually one of them got one of the hens and we had to put of a network of ropes that wove together so that if one of them flew down then they would get stuck. The reason that we don't have any roosters is that we've had a lot of trouble with some neighbors about them waking them up. I understand completely.

Well, thats pretty much it. Thanks for reading!
    –Patrick

    Welcome from Australia,Patrick.

Very informative first post. Good luck with the hawk problem.

If you really want to be a Police Officer, now is the time to start your first steps towards that.

DON'T do anything that will put that dream at risk. What you do today, WILL affect your entire life. Stay away from anything that is wrong (and not just hings that are illegal), and also stay away from people that do things that are wrong.

Before you do anything, think to yourself, would my Grandma/Grandpa approve of this? Would a Police Officer approve of this? If the answer is no, or maybe not, or probably not, then don't do it!

One day you will probably have to do a poly test and anything you have ever done, will come up. Have nothing to hide, regret or to explain.

Keep in mind, most specialist jobs, will require at least a few years experience as a general duties Police Officer, so keep that in mind.

At 14, you have a fair bit of time before you get to the point of looking seriously at LEO as a career. In the mean time, keep learning from those around you, pursue anything that will help you be a good person, and best of luck in life and your pursuits for an LEO career.

Welcome to the site and enjoy.

    Thanks,
I have been studying police work and drugs for the past 2 years or so. I'm also studying guns and such.

My record is clean! We aren't going near drugs or anything illegal. The only thing I can think of that we have been pulled over for is that my brother's (the driver) driving permit had expired and we had to get a new one.

I forgot to mention that I am also Catholic and homeschooled. I am advanced in Tae Kwon Do and also know some Jujitsu so I think that if someone attacked me without a weapon that I could disarm them and take them down without much damage to them and get out. Thats one thing it's important to remember: Don't hang around and beat the person up! remove the threat and LEAVE!

I live on a dead end road by a big school and there is a library within riding distance, so I ride my bike there quite often. Once I was coming home from the library and there were tons of children from school by the sidewalk waiting for something and I rode by them and as usual the boys yelled some stuff at me. (I don't know what by I don't think I want to. :P) I just smiled and waved and that seemed to put them off.

I've talked with a lot of school children and they all seem to think that we're sooooooooo lonely. They are slightly right, we don't have many people that we can do things with but heck, with all this bad clothing and such, I'm not sure I would want to. I have a few friends at my martial arts class and they are basically the only people that I would want to be friends with. We all get along.
    Got to go!
    –Patrick

    Thanks,
If you don't mind me asking, how many explorers do you have in your program? Unfortunately,we don't have that many.

Sorry, I missed this at first.

I live in a city with 20,000 people to give you an idea of the poplutation. We have about 13 Explorers at this time but like 5 are in college and aren't very active because of that.

I know how you feel. We have seven people. Ones in collage, one never comes to the meetings, and one never ever wears her uniform. :|
Basically it's me, my brother, and another explorer who actually participate in the work.

If the Sheriffs explorer's work wasn't so branched out over the county then I would join them. They have around 17 active members. ^^

Our city's population is probably between 28,000 and 33,000. At least thats what it was before the hurricane.

Recently we went on a great tour of our Coast Guard station! we went into the boats and learned a lot. It was really neat.
