5 posts in and i realized that i never made a proper introduction. My name is Kyle. I am originally from Staten Island, NY about 5 minutes from the ferry. I am in the United States Navy, my ship sails out of Norfolk, VA aka !@#$%^, !@#$%a. But we are currently forward deployed in the GWOT. OPSEC is a big thing so I can't really say anything about what our current situation is until we are done, then I would be more than happy to answer any questions you might have.
I took the test for NYPD about 2 years ago and passed and was placed on military hold with a letter from my Executive Officer. I get out of the Navy 11 May 2008, so i guess I won't be able to make it till January 2009.
My rate (job/rank) in the Navy is STG2, that means Sonar Technician, Second Class Petty Officer (E-5). Sonar is extremely boring and outdated so fortunately I don't spend much time doing it.
I am involved in my ships FP division. FP stands for Force Protection, which is the ship’s anti/ counter terrorism. I am a member of the ship's VBSS Team (Visit Board Search & Seizure). We are basically modern day pirates, except instead of swords and muskets, we have mk-18's and sigs...: cool:. Basically if we come across another ship that needs to be boarded, we get geared up and take it down. I am also a member of the SRF (ships reaction force), which is the in port emergency counter terrorism response team. I am also certified as a Non-Lethal Weapons Instructor. I have been through a pipeline of many schools to be certified for those teams, many of which are taught by private contractors, I have been to several schools at Blackwater, and the Lynx Academy.
I miss New York, and am really looking forward to joining the NYPD. I have a few friends in Sanitation and I have a really big hook in there, but that is not what I want to do with my life. I know where I am supposed to be and it is not picking up trash.
Anyway thanks for your time and hopefully I can learn a lot from this board before i cross over.
//Kyle
