    Greeting from a Future Detective

Hello all. I am new here and thought I would introduce myself.

No personal info will be given beyond being 18 and in college. I train horses and own two. I hope to become a detective (planning to request SVU...not because of the show, but because of personal history), but I know you have to be a street officer first, which I have no qualms with. I respect police greatly, and would be glad to join their ranks, if only temporarily for a few years, one day.

    Welcome to RP.

I do Police work on a different continent to where you live, however, I am fairly confident that being a Detective actually means that you are a cop.

It is good to have a goal, and if yours is to be a Detective, then go for it. I would suggest getting a good grounding in Police work first, and then see what happens.

In some if not most departments , there is no such thing as SVU. In my PD of 48 officers, our detectives are responsible to detect everything.

And ...you need to become a good street officer with about 5 yrs on before you will even have a shot at being a det.

    Welcome.

Good writing skills are essential for law enforcement. You will be evaluated by your supervisor and command, and the Courts, on the quality of your written work. Detectives are selected from patrol officers with above average writing skillls. Take advantage of courses available at your college.

In my department, we do have SVU. Get your college degree. Get hired and work patrol for about 5 years. Do good work, be energetic, and keep your life clean. Apply and keep applying to the Criminal Investigation Division until you get selected. Accept any assignment in CID as a start. You have to be good to get Robbery, Homicide, or SVU. Good Luck and welcome. ;)

You do realize a detective is a cop, right? ;)

Yes, I do realize this. I should have specified a street officer, as opposed to just "cop", but for the life of me I could not think of the right term while writing it. Please forgive my mistake.

I am aware that you have to be an officer on the street for at least five years, most of the time, and I am more than happy to do so. I hold all positions in law enforcement in high regard.

I do plan on finishing college, and am currently majoring in pyschology. I realize this does not totally apply to my goals to become a detective, but it is another passion of mine. So far I am a straight A student, and plan to keep it that way. And sgtbear111, I love english, and write in all forms on my own times, so being evaluated for above average writing skills should not be too terribly hard. I just need to work on my spelling a bit.

Speaking of college, this student has the last bit of her 10 page essay to write. Thank you all for the welcome and support!
