It would appear that my uncorrected vision has caused the first road block for me (but hopefully to be corrected shortly!). I've spoken with the recruiting officers for the states that I'm interested in and I've come to learn that Lasik surgery is not a disqualifier for any of them. If your uncorrected vision after surgery is better than established standards (i.e. 20/40 or 20/200 whatever the case may be) this will qualify you as an acceptable candidate. I also learned that there is an additional vision test that must be performed in one state and a candidate must pass it if they have had Lasik surgery performed, but I'll cross that bridge when I get there.
It seems like based on the research I've done, Lasik is a relatively safe method of vision correction and with immediate results. I spoke with a friend who has also had Lasik surgery performed and he swears by it. He also mentioned that a lot of the guys in the department have had it done as well and with good results/no problems.
I set up a full consult with a physician's group in the city about a week ago for next week Wednesday (the 21st). I'm hoping that the consult will confirm that I'm a good candidate for the corrective surgery and that I'll be able to have the surgery completed within a relatively short period of time subsequent to the consult. Based on those results (if good) I have a tentative surgery scheduled for next week Friday (the 23rd).
Looking at 4/7, 4/28 and 5/21 for various PAT's and exams. A little anxious but looking forward to it.
