Hello I'm Chris (nickname "CRO") from Bundaberg, which is on the east coast of Australia.
I currently am employed as what is called a Communications Room Operator (CRO) with the Queensland Police Service. I guess you can say we are the equivilent to your 911 operators who receive incoming emergency phonecalls and dispatch police units to the scene. We also handle general phonecalls relating to questions that the public might have. We are civilians, but are classed as "operational staff" which is at the heart of the police station. We are effectively the first response to the public's emergency needs.
Previously I have worked in the security industry as an officer and instructor. I have spent two years as mobile patrols and personal protection, and then progressing to Cash in transit armoured escorts.
I am currently studying a Diploma of Justice Administration, which is the pre-requisite for application for the Queensland Police Service as a recruit. I see my work experience within the police station as an incredibly valuable step to becoming a sworn-in police officer.
If you have any questions, I would be happy to answer them.
(P.S. Just looking at the site - would I be elligible to get access to the restricted areas for law enforcement related individuals?)
Thanks in Advance.
CRO
