Hello from Texas!

Just recently found this board, and it looked like a good place to be. I'm 36 years old and my position with the Texas Department of Public Safety is the first police job I've had. I was a computer programmer for a few years before that, but I definitely made the right choice for myself.

Been on for 2 1/2 years, now. Spent 1 1/2 years down on the coast, then got to transfer back to Austin where I've lived for most of the past 20 years. (20 years... Suddenly I feel old...:eek: )

I'm DOT certified and I get along reasonably well with the truckers, though there are a few that aren't afraid to tell me to my face that they "don't like cops". Can't win them all over, I suppose. :rolleyes:

Got a very supportive girlfriend who likes that I love my job. She keeps me grounded, which helps a lot.

Anyway, time to get on with my day off and relax a bit. Hope to learn a lot from y'all!

I live north of Dallas, well away from the epicenter of Libearal happenings down in Austin. :D

Currently a programmer like you were, but hope to follow in your footsteps eventually - I'm sick of my relationship with Bill Gates. The guy just won't stop screwing up stuff for us every time he brings out new version of something. If it were anyone else screwing everything up like he does, we could sue them :rolleyes:

I'm into target shooting too - These are my two main two games...

And that, my friends, is why I choose to work with SunOS, any version of Linux, Unix, Mac and any other OS you can think of. The most I'd do with windows is play a few games, when I actually have a chance, and as a *gulp*..dare I say it...workstation!

You should find fellow 'geeks' on here as well and ditto on the shootin time. ;)
