Hello fom VA

I a 30 year old computer professional, work for my family's Computer consulting company. I am applying to be an Auxiliary Deputy Sheriff next year in my home town. If I am able to navigate the gauntlet of the hiring process I will start the Academy in August '07. The Academy is 10 months, 640 hours. I'm here to gain as much information as I can from persons in the LE field, especially the Auxiliary persons, from a stand point of how they handle both there Job, family and Volunteering.

I have a B.S. in Network administration and am a certified MCSE. Those last two items don't matter but thought I would list my education and corresponding certifications. I love to run, lift weights and go camping with my family.

Having read the barrage of flames of posts the following list was checked off.
-Paragraphs...check.
-After picking my name, and reading the sticky about picking names, I realized "Aux?" might be perceived as me misrepresenting my self. I hope that is not the case. I'm am not a LEO. Well not yet, but hopefully next year.
-No dumb questions......check.
-Spell Check......check.
-Have not used the search button yet, the Sticky threads took care of most if not all questions.....so.......check.

I know what you mean. I just hope to fulfill the urge I have had, most my life to become a LEO even in an Auxiliary capacity. My life took down another path, one which I love, but does not fulfill me completely.

I love to volunteer and help people, and love to see the bad guy go down. If I had a dollar for every time I have said "I wish there was a cop around to pop that guy!". My current job (Business) is owned by my family and I couldn't take a 60-80% pay cut....well I could, my wife and kids would put some soap in a sock and take care of my in my sleep.:eek:

That is what I'm afraid of...lol. Cops and Robbers is what we played....not Computer Tech and Client. Which would any of us pick. If they start paying LEO's what they are worth..:confused: .my wife and family would go for it full time.

We have a bunch of reservists and part timers here. I started out as a part time volunteer. Nothing wrong with it. It just depends on how much you want to do.
