    I have rights?

Sorry for the title, everyone had the hi's and hellos along with the whats up's for their titles. Figured this would be a little different, first thing that popped in my head. I'll start off by saying that I am not a police officer of any kind, was planning on becoming one, but decided to get out of it.

I decided against being a police officer for two reasons, the first was when I found out I was turned down by the surgeon general of the military for asthma related problems. I was told by them that I could not become a police officer or firefighter. With that in mind, I decided to study criminal justice anyways, figured how many times the rules change, by the time I was done with college they might change their mind and let me in.

Well while I was studying criminal justice I learned about how laws were thought up, by whom and why. Also saw how they used to be and how the laws didnt change up a whole lot, but how the justice system did. Disappointed in that I decided against becoming a police officer. No offense to any police officers or lawyers in here.

With all that in mind I always wanted to be the guy who went after the criminals, kind of like an investigator, but I wanted to hunt the person(s) down and bring them down as well, not just turn them over. The only people I know of that do that are Marshells and Rangers. I am sure there are more, but that is all that I could find out about. I would really like to still do a job where I do what I described above, but I have no idea if there is such a job in Texas and if there is, do I have to first be a police officer? If anyone can help I would really appreciate it. Thanks for reading the long post.

 Do you think regular police officers just sit around and wait until a criminal turns him or herself in?

If I thought that I would be a retard. They drive around and write tickets. Just joking man, I know that police officers hunt down criminals, everyone knows this. I am trying to figure out a way to do that without becoming a police officer. I heard that a way to start off is by becoming a NARC, and that is all good and all, I dont like the idea of a NARC, but I probably just dont understand it all. If anyone could explain it, that would be great.

And again, I have nothing against police officers, my problem is with the justice system, not the laws. And I definatly do not want to fight the justice system from the inside like a lot of my old friends, who in the end just started freaking me out.

Just because one agency wont hire you because of asthma doesnt mean every ageny wont. Most agencies that I have looked into dont mind asthma as long as you can complete PT and manage your asthma. If its really bad well then your probably not going to be able to do it but if its manageable and you can perfrom the same physical activities as others I say do some research and try.

Agreed. Also, to work as a Narcotics agent/officer you usually have to be employed by a police department first as it's a specialized position. At least in my area that's the way it works.

However, if you've made the determination that law enforcement isn't for you for whatever reason, more power to you. At least you realize it now, instead of years down the line or worse getting yourself or someone else hurt.
Be advised, I'm mean nasty and tired. I eat concertina wire and piss napalm and I could put a round through a fleas *** at 300 yards. So why don't you hump somebody else's leg mutt-face before I push yours in.

Asthma won't stop you. I have it and I know lots of officers with it. If all you want to do is hunt down bad guys, then you may be dissapointed with LE for the first few years. Why? Because being a police officer is much more than just that. After a few years, you can get into special units who just do that (depending on the agency), but first you must learn how it all works.

I recommend you get the final word that you can't be a cop... from a cop. Not the "surgeon general of the military." That's as silly as a police department recruiter telling you that you can't be a Ranger.

Thank you for all your answers, my asthma is very easily manageable, it only comes around if an irritant enters my bronchial tube. So a PT would be no problem what so ever. What I was talking about with the NARC wasnt really a narcotics agent, God knows it takes a lot to become one of those. Even in the small town I live in. I meant where the police force uses civilians, usually ones that were arrested for similar charges, to rat out others they know are guilty of misdemeanor type crimes. Like drug possession, theft, etc.

And from what I am to understand, bounty hunting is illegal in Texas, that or there are too many restrictions to be one. Someone told me that bounty hunters cant work for privately owned agencies, or carry weapons. So what the hell is the point in that, if its true.

One thing I have always been interested in is the border patrol, anyone here ever been part of that agency. Another question for all the officers, why is it so many officers dont like Internal Affairs? I have never understood that, when I was on the road to be a police officer, I had hopes of either I.A., or special tactics.

I'm just going to go ahead and call you a tool up front and hope you prove me wrong. But I think you have a huge chip on your shoulder because you got turned down. I also don't think you've spent a single day in college judging by the way you spell. Why don't you just go ahead and say what's on your mind and get it over with?

This question has a faint sniff of troll to it but I'll bite. Most people have no problem with IA but a lot of their work is political - in some areas they are the Political Correctness Police which can rapidly suck morale. Don't get me wrong - none of us one to see bad cops tarring our reputations so IA have an important role in weeding them out, however some of the time they can come across as over officious and no-one likes "Big Brother". If you are a real poster good luck in finding your unicorn job.

Thank you for your replies, if you can read what I am saying, then by all means I guess my grammar is alright. If you cant read what I am saying, dont read it. As for the rest who replied, thanks for information. To be quite honest I do have a chip on my shoulder due to the huge let down from the military on letting me in. I had to work my butt off to get in just to be let down. However, just because I got let down didnt mean I gave up.

At the time that I was in college I was gung ho on becoming a cop, then after learning about the justice system, I wanted no part in it. As a matter of fact, I still hate the justice system, but where else can you help protect other people that dont deserve harm to be brought upon them?
