Just an introduction

Hello all

I just wanted to introduce myself. I am a college graduate that has had a life long desire to become a police officer. I am about to start the hiring process on a second department. The first one didn't go to well, due to my fault. I was all the way to the Background Interview when I was questioned about one wreck that was left out of my BG packet. Couple that with the fact that I was about as nervous as I could possibly be, and you get disaster. I was not rejected I was just passed over due to the competitiveness of the hiring process.

You can classify me in the Gonna be catagory and not the wanna be catagory. I don't want to become a police officer for money, I'm already taking a pay cut if I get hired by any PD. Its not to carry a gun, OK has concealled carry if I want that. Its not for the uniform, there are a lot of professions that you can wear a uniform.

I have the desire and drive to become a police officer so strong that is hard to put into a simple sentence. As long as I can remember I have always wanted to watch any show that showed the real workings of police departments, not like Law & Order or CSI or any other Hollywood take.

God willing by July I will be starting my career as a Police Officer.

Sounds like you really know what you want to do. As you said, it isn't about money, or carrying, or wearing a shirt. It's about pride in what you do.

Its kind of funny. Going through High School you go to all of the "what do you want to be when you graduate High School" fairs. You take the tests that are susposed to tell you what you want to do. You look at what your parents do for a living, their parents, your friends parents. So you decided not to decide and push through college. You change majors a time or two and you still come back to one thing. The drive inside you that won't change.

I started College as a CJ major thinking this would help me get a job in law enforcement. Two years in I changed my mind and said a Finance degree would be more marketable. Three months before graduation the desire comes back. After talking to my wife, you have to keep her happy, she agreed to back me. So I printed off my first application and sent it in.

Although I was "not as competitive as other applicants" I'm still determined to follow my desire. Some people would have given up and said, "Oh well," The outcome of my first round made me more determined. I was able to find out how stringent the application process is and fix my short falls. I'm confident that by early July I will start training for my first law enforcement job. If this doesn't pan out I'll reapply at my first choice and keep going.
