My name is Chad and I am 22 years old. I have a application pending with the Cape Coral Police Department. My mom is a deputy sheriff so its in my blood. I am also prior Air Force. I would like some advice from some other officers and deputies about the best way to prepare for a career in law enforcement. Any good tips to be successful is greatly appreciative. Thanks

If you are prior Security Forces in USAF you are able to bypass the regular Florida academy. You would have to take something along the lines of a refresher course, in addition to a course on Florida criminal laws.

Florida is the only state in the country that will allow military LEOs to do this.

Good to have you along for the ride. Good luck in your law enforcement career. The only piece of advise i can give you is that no matter how bad you want to catch a criminal, it aint worth dying for. When developing your style of working, look at the people you work with and take their good points, combine them with your good points and try to mould it into something you can work with. The bad points you can keep as a reference of what not to do.
