Welcome to RP.
I'm originally from Lexington. You'll get some excellent training at their academy and you picked a great department to go to work for. I've heard things have gotten a bit better up there for them as far as retention since they got some well-deserved raises.
Retention is better but morale is still low. However, with the wonderful circumstances surrounding the exit of ole Asst. Chief Cake n' Punch, the tone has gotten better.

If he's going to Lexington Metro, he'll attend the LPD academy, except for the BTO and driving portions I believe. But maybe that's on the Richmond campus too?
And parker, you should get verified!
Thanks again all.
Deputy757,
Never knew morale was a problem. I have 4 friends on the dept and they have nothing but good things to say about it. I do know the raises made quite a few people happy. I was kind of worried that would significantly increase the competition but things turned out ok.
Parker420,
Thanks. I think the metro academy is 32 weeks long total although I could be wrong. I'll have to look at their website again.
Maysville194,
I think one of the guys I worked with in Iraq is on the Maysville dept. It might have been Mayfield. If you had a guy get back from Iraq in the last month or two then it's probably him.
Welcome!

Things definitely have gotten better with the raises but the most significant event to turn the tide was the retirement of Chief Walsh and the gradual exodus of those he had put in place around him. I still have many friends there, most of whom, at one time, went far out of their way to ensure they had no contact with any members of the community because no contact = no complaints.Originally Posted by Signal9

Welcome to another KY LEO. I just started the Richmond academy Monday and let me tell ya, it's not that bad here. You hear all kinds of stuff about staying under the radar and all that, but it's not like that. Btw: parker420, it's 18 weeks now. My class is the first to go through the 18 week program. If any of you are in the area, hit me up with a PM and we'll get together for dinner some night when I'm not studying or running. :D
