Welcome to the board.
Just curious - do you plan on typing in bold and/or color as well as abnormal sized font in all you posts? ;)

Shouldn't be a problem so long as you realize two things:Originally Posted by NURCYN
1. While here, you need to familiarize yourself with the Terms of Service and abide by them (simple enought, right?)
2. While many here are verified law enforcement officers, and know our respective positions well, we do not, nor do we pretend to know all the aspects of the legal profession (i.e. prosecution, defense, paralegal, etc.). At best you'll get second hand information here (which may still prove useful), and under no circumstances should you ask for legal advice... not our place to provide it, as that's what attornies do.
Other than that, fire away with whatever questions you have.

Generally, while you can change position over the course of a career, you have a fixed position/detail for any given period of time. Our department hires private security to do courtroom security, and our county bailiffs are not deputies. Other departments may do things different, but a patrol officer is not going to be doing court security or serving as a correctional officer during the time they are assigned to patrol (at least not with my department, or any other ones I know of).Originally Posted by NURCYN
In a manner of speaking, yes. It's a competative process driven by seniority and (to a lesser extent around here) merit.Originally Posted by NURCYN
That varies from one department to the next. Some only require a HS diploma/GED, while other require either a 2 or 4 year degree. A lot of this information is readily available to you already. Just do a search (click the "Search" button at the top of the screen). Also, the Ask-A-Cop area is helpful for asking LE-specific questions and getting responses from LEOs.Originally Posted by NURCYN

Welcome, retired from PDX here.
