Hello. My name is Sam and I'm currently taking up the steps to get into a career in some field of law enforcement that I haven't pinpointed yet. The one thing that I do know though is that it seems like a career choice that I would like to pursue. I've completed a year so far and have about 3 more years left for a Bachelor's degree. In my pursuit for a forum to join to discuss things of this nature, I came across this site and thought I would give it a shot. Well, I'll be browsing.

Oh, I think it's something "nice" to have as an additional certification. Makes a nice minor to add on to your major. For folks already getting a CJ or Public Administration it's a helpful tag-along.

Right now I'm taking classes at Florida Metropolitan University. Pretty good school but it costs a little more than I would like.

As for what Mr. Baron said...I'm enjoying it in addition to a CJ major. So Technically I'll have a degree in both in the end. But you really learn things that aren't covered under Criminal Justice alone such as Domestic and International Terrorism which shows the past history, what's going on now, and what can happen. Good class. I'm currently taking part two

There are quite a few universities and colleges offering degrees in Homeland Security, Intelligence Studies, and Emergency Management now-a-days. Some are cranking them out like a puppy-mill. The university that I attended offers these degrees, as well as, traditional ones. The professorship is awesome, with folks that have extensive backgrounds and credentials. I think the future is wide open for this type of education, and that there will be a place for those who wish to advance (in the private sector, as well as, the local, state, and gov't level). Thanks for the wishing of luck. And the professorship is insanely awesome. One of my instructor is ex-NYPD who worked with narcotics investigations and the other is ex-IRS. Very, very good instructors. I was actually impressed with that more than anything because it's not just textbooks like my Civil and Criminal law class. It was real stuff from experiences. I'm just trying to decide exactly what field to go into when I get out.
