Hey everyone,
The name is Steven and I just joined today in order to learn more about the police officer profession. I find it very interesting and would like to get into it as a career. I'm 27, and originally was planning on college in social work. I have since changed directions slightly because I believe police, fire and paramedics are another form of social workers who have to enjoy helping and serving other people.
I'm almost an Emergency Medical First Responder, and will likely continue on to get my EMT-Basic. I want to be a Paramedic, but still feel the desire to be a LEO. I'm also a licensed amateur radio operator - which is one of my side hobbies.
I want to be a police officer, but feel somewhat leary of my chances due to a teenage mistake when I was 18. I ended up with a felony for petty theft of merchandise from a retail store. I did the 2 years probation, then had the records expunged. Since 1998 I haven't been in any trouble what-so-ever, so I guess that could play in my favor some. It's been 7 years since the incident took place (which I guess you could figure out). :-)
I figure there's no harm in trying, and when my Paramedic school ran a background check prior to starting there, they didn't find anything. Granted I'm sure they aren't as strict as the police industry.
Anyway, I'm glad to be at the board, and I hope to hear encouraging words from you and learn a great deal.
-Steven
