Introduction

Hello to all,

I am new here so I thought I would introduce myself. My name is Nick Smith and I am 21 years old. I have a beautiful wife who I have been married to for almost three years now. I live in Washington State (yes it is the place where the rain never stops). I love sports and play softball and basketball in recreation leagues with my friends and family. My wife says that I am borderline obsessive with sports because the only things I watch on TV are Sportscenter and Mariners/Sonics/Seahawks/Huskies games. *Disclaimer* Please don't hate because I love Seattle sports teams. I know we will most likely never win it all but you can't take away a man's hope!

Seriously though, the most important things in life to me are God and family. I love hanging out with my wife doing virually anything. We both love to travel and hope to do more in the future and we both really want to have kids but are waiting until we are both finished with school and securely in our careers.

I have been interested in a career in law enforcement for quite sometime now and I have been attending a local community college while completing my criminal justice degree. I have about twenty credits left to complete the degree, which is about two quarters.

I have recently begun the application process for the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office. I have taken and passed the physical ability, as well as the written, test and I am scheduled for my oral board interview for Monday, April 11th.

I look forward to conversing with all of you on these forums while I go through this process. Being law enforcement officers, you all will undoubtedly have knowledge and insight that will be of great help as well as inspiration to me as I strive for my goal of a law enforcement career.

Hello everyone,

I wanted to take a second and update you all on what has been going on since my last post. I have not posted for over six months because I have been extremely busy with the hiring process and work.

Anyway, as of my last post, I was awaiting my oral boards for Snohomish County. I am happy to say that I have passed my oral boards. After about a 4 month stay on the eligiblity list, I was contacted for an interview with the Lieutenant. At this interview, I received a conditional offfer of employment and began the background process. I have taken my written phsycological test (1600 questions!!) and yesterday, I passed my polygraph examination. I am scheduled for a medical exam this Monday and I meet with a psychologist this Wednesday.

The written psychological test is one of the most tedious things I have ever done. Filling in 1600 bubbles will sure make your arm ache. I believe I did well on this test because I was not informed that I failed it and I was invited back to the polygraph.

The polygraph was a very interesting and unique situation. I somewhat knew what to expect from conversing with current law enforcement officers, however, I was still extremely nervous and very excited. My polygraph administrator was a really neat person. She walked me through the test and went over all of the questions she was going to ask. I know this is what she is supposed to do, but she was really nice and friendly the whole time. She kept talking to me about the agency and all of the benefits I would have working there. She gave me much needed information and I could ask her any question without feeling dumb or that the question was invalid.

The test itself was rather nerve racking since she could see everything that was going on inside my body everytime I answered a question. She normally runs the test three times, however, after the second test she stopped and said, "Well, there is no need to run another." I didn't know if this was good or bad and I asked her. To which she responded, "It's good, you passed. You have no issues." She then brought me over to the computer screen and explained my charts to me and what all of the marks and different things meant. It was really interesting.

I was so happy and excited that I passed when walking out of the office and to my car. It was a fantastic feeling. My dream of becoming a law enforcement officer is starting to become a reality. I know that I still have a long road to go, but I have already been on this road for longer than what is left now, so that is really encouraging. Eight months of hard work is starting to look like it has been worth it. I don't want to get ahead of myself because I could still be disqualified, however, many of the hardest parts are behind me and that gives me real hope.

I have also been testing with two other agencies, King County Sheriff's Office and Seattle Police Department. I am currently in the background process with King County and I just took the written test for Seattle Polie Department. On which I scored ad 93.8% and I am number 38 out of 183 candidates.

I am sorry it has been so long between posts and I posted in this introduction forum because most of you will most likely not remember me. I will try and keep updating my progress as soon as I become aware of my results and or hiring decision. The Lieutenant said that I would know if I was hired by December and, if hired, I would start the academy in January. I am so excited!!
