    Author doing research

    Hello folks,

I'm a freelance writer/artist who is working on her first book at the moment. It's going to be a work of fiction with a mixture of different genres, including mystery. This of course is requiring me to learn a bit about law enforcement, and while I suppose I could call my local PD's PR reps to interview an actual LEO, unfortunately, I'm having a bit of trouble thinking of questions to ask!

So I've come here to see if I could get some more information to start with. So far of what I've read, this place is really quite facinating. I'll probably be posting my newbie questions in the "Ask A Cop" forum, so I'd like to thank you all in advance for putting up with my stupid questions...when I finally think of some. *L*

    Cheers,
    Lori Blacksin

You could sign up for a ride-along with the local PD.

Or any "newbie" questions can probably be answered with the clever use of the search on the site. Other than that, Welcome, Bienvenuti, Wilkommen, Bienvenue, Bienvenidos and whatever other language you can think of.....cuz those are my limitations right there.... lol

Vigilante justice?....heh, makes my job slightly easier

"The lesser the paperwork, the happier I am, and I'm not happy. You shoulda killed him" - SGT "Doc" James P. Swinney, Medic, B Co. 1/64 AR, 3ID(M), OIF I

Before you debate the law with me or another officer, make sure you have a "firm" grasp of the english language and try researching it, quoting it, or something else valid instead of "Well I heard that...."

Someone needs to come up with something else witty to quote...

Ditto the ride along sugestion. Nothing will get you more information about what this is like. You should also consider seeing if they have a citizen's police academy. My agency does and puts it on a couple times a year. It lasts a couple months and the citizens get real inside view of our training and what we do. It's only a few hours in the evening once or twice a week. They go on multiple ride alongs, shoot our guns, and get a taste of the training that we go through.

Welcome, Lori, if you need a great mystery figure, one who has all the answers and all the good stories; a fearless, non-stop cop.....I suggest you speak to our very own DC Law. He's book material.

Then, you should seek out TxInvestigator to proof read your manuscript and add corrections or further suggestions to grasp the interest of your public.

Tah dah! You're best seller has been written!!! :D

You came to the right place!
