    "Old Timer" Re-Introduction Thread

So, this has been bugging me for a while.

We always ask new members to introduce themselves before posting questions so that we know something about them when we interact with them. Often, though, new members know little about the people who have been here for a while, with the only solution being extensive searching to try to find info on each individual member.

So, if you've been here a while (more than a year or two), this is the spot for you to tell everybody all about yourself (again)!

Newer members are still encouraged to start new threads introducing themselves.

    Hey, everyone! I'm Citicop.

I'm a patrol Sergeant in a police department in the greater St. Louis Metro area. I've been with my department for a little over ten years. I'm a certified DWI Instructor, a Field Training Officer, a Crisis Intervention Team officer, and had advanced training in Highway Drug Interdiction. I also spent just a little time helping out the local Computer Crimes Task Force before my promotion to Sergent.

In my off time, I'm still in the process of finishing up my degree (April of '13 can't come soon enough). I also like playing video games, going hiking with my wife, and reading spy thrillers/scifi/fantasy novels. I've been here at RP for a little over seven years, and have been a Moderator for about two years.

    Nice to meet everyone (again)!

Great idea to start this thread & Citicop I have family in Columbia,Mo. so fly into STL every now & then.

I'm a former police officer from "way back" in the 70's but have quite a few friends in the local pd & ride with them on occasions & am involved in our community crime watch so that I'm not all the way out of the loop.

Have been employed by the airlines since Jan1979 & current one since Oct.1985. God willing I'm going to retire this year.
Please know that I pray for each of you daily. Be very careful out there & BE SAFE.

Hey Folks, I am Sam (and Sam I am),

I'm a copper here in Southern California. In a couple of more weeks, I will have been with my department for 14 years. I've worked in custody, out on patrol, and am currently instructing full-time at our academy.

I'm old enough to know better and young enough to still screw up. I remember VHF/UHF, 8 track/33/45/78, mimeographs, rotary dials, bias ply, skylab, modesty, humility, substance over style, and taking responsibility for one's own actions, among many other things.

For new members and guests, welcome to the site. Remember, it's not your house - act accordingly or I shall fart in your general direction, taunt you a second time, and then put you on Ignore.

My name's Jim, I'm an alcoholic...

    No, wait! Wrong forum....

I'm retired Portland, Orygun police. Started there in 1970, threw down (uh, turned in) my badge and retired in 1998 or so. During that time, I worked uniform for about 11 years and detectives the remainder. Being a little ADD, I moved around working sex crimes, homicide, drugs (specializing in meth labs), served as a liaison to the state Children's Services with my office at their facility for 3 years, then back to homicide, robbery for a few months and then finished my career working hate crimes.

In my spare time, I taught academy classes on sex crime and later, hate crime investigation. I also taught seminars on suspect interviewing and traveled the state in the late 80's teaching seminars on drug lab investigation and the dangers thereof. For several years, my department held a detective academy for agencies in the area and I taught writing search warrant affidavits there. My department has an annual week long in-service and I taught a variety of subjects there, including how officers could get help for themselves and family members with alcohol problems.

Also while working as a cop, I went to college and got a bachelor's and master's in sociology. With those and 2 bucks, I can get a cuppa cheap coffee nearly anywhere in town.

Guess I need to add, I spent 6 years with Uncle Sam as a grunt.

But the real reason I became a cop was so I could drive fast, carry a gun and beat up people!

Hey guys. My name's Switchback and I'm addicted... oh, wait. Nevermind.

Obviously, I'm a long-time poster, here. I'm a Organized Crime stupervisor, errr... I mean supervisor with the U.S. Marshals. Before that I spent about 9 years on our Special Operations Group. I've bounced around the country (or the world, rather) with SOG. Instructed a lot of tactics and firearms stuff. Nowadays, I'm grudgingly growing up a bit and having to do "grown-up stuff".

Another long time member that can't seem to leave this place. Let's see, in the time that I've been a member of this forum I've been a part-time cop, a full-time cop, a federal agent, a crime scene investigator, and a college CJ instructor. Deployed with the Navy once, that was interesting.

Other than that, I'm just happy to work for an agency that seems to be the "right fit" for me, and being a dad and husband (aww... isn't that adorably cliche?). Plus I was the doctor framed by a one armed man who really killed my wife...

... yeah, that last part wasn't true (totally ripped that off from "The Fugitive").

Hi I'm Greg. I have been a part-time police officer in southwest PA for almost six years now. I started in 2005 but had a year off due to wasting a year of my life in NC. Part-time policing is not the same as reserve officers are in some states. I'm a regularly scheduled and paid employee, I just get paid less than full timers, get no benefits, and can't go over 40 hours a week and therefore work at two different departments in two different counties. It's a real plus for the towns because they only need to pay us for time worked and court is regular time. Both departments are for towns relatively small in size, one is 1.5 square miles with about 5000 people, the other is about 7 square miles with about 9000 people.

I pretty much work over 40 hours a week every week because I get 32 hours a week at one department and work anywhere from 1-3 shifts at the other. It wears on you hard because there is no normalcy to your schedule. You can work daylight, afternoon, and night shift all in three consecutive days. That's just the way to start around here because full time police work is tough to get in this area and is usually political. We still go to the same academies, usually self sponsored and at colleges, and have to meet all of the same requirements. It should be illegal, but I'm dumb enough to do it for now.

Look at me trying to prove my worth like I've done something in 6 years.

Joined the USAF Security Police in 1978 and got to see the world. Thanks to those who were around to pay your taxes at the time

I was stationed at Malmstrom AFB Montana , Kunsan Air base South Korea and McGuire AFB New Jersey. I had little side trips to Germany and Arkansas.

I was hired as a PA Municipal Police Officer in 1986 and spent 25 + years with the same dept. I was a member of the SWAT Team , FTO, Advanced Accident Investigator , Sobriety Checkpoint Manager , Weighmaster , Corporal , DOT Enforcement Officer , Haz-Mat / Tanker Enforcement Officer , Sgt and than Detective Sgt. before I retired 12-31-11.

I am now a part-time Safety Officer with a large construction company doing DOT for them, accident and criminal investigations and I represent them in traffic court on traffic/ DOT offenses.

I also have my own DOT type inspection business started where I go to a trucking company and " DOT " their trucks and give them a written report on any violations that I find so they can fix them without getting fined etc.

I am a retired Marine Mustang. Enlisted for about 11 years, and Officer for the last 10 and some change.

As an enlisted Marine I was able to do a tour as a Marine Corps Drill Instructor (92 to 94 at MCRD San Diego) and my main MOS was aviation electronics. I used to work on the venerable A-4 Skyhawk before they were gotten rid of, and then after the Drill Field I went to work on Harriers.

I lucked out in The Basic School and got one of two available pilot slots so went to Pensacola for flight training. There I met and married my wife and adopted her young daughter from another relationship. We've since had 3 more and they are my everything! (My fire team!) Ended up flying the KC-130 for the Corps for a couple years out of Cherry Point, and then the squeaky wheel got the grease and I came back to P'cola to retire as a Flight Instructor out of Whiting Field.

The airline field was quite a bit too volatile for me to be able to depend on it to raise a young family, so I looked into Law Enforcement. Figured it's pretty much para-military anyway. My first agency was at a small junior college, but we were fully qualified, sworn LEO's with full powers of arrest. Stayed there about 2 1/2 years and made lots of friends and acquaintances, and then about 2 1/2 years ago I moved to my county's Sheriff's Office. MUCH more responsibility and area, and there is so much more to do. Right now I'm still in the Patrol section, but am looking to try something different in the future, like K-9 (which would be my dream) or maybe Investigations or something.

Hello folks, I've been a member of RP for about 8 years. I joined the site looking for information on how to get into law enforcement. Obviously I accomplished that, and I hang around for the comic relief, networking, and war stories from the old farts. *cough* RetDetSgt, CatDoc *cough cough*.

I have been a Deputy Sheriff in Central Florida for just over 6 years now. I worked in Patrol for about 4 and a half years. While there I did a little bit of time temporarily assigned to Vice/Narcotics, getting some experience there. I then moved to Traffic Homicide, and have spent the last 1.5 years there. In the traffic unit I am a Traffic Homicide Investigator, and I also work night shift doing DUI enforcement. Last year I made 101 DUI arrests.

I hold certifications as a Traffic Crash Reconstructionist, and I have specialized training in DUI enforcement. This year my agency is going to start sending me to schools to get into instructing, more advanced traffic crash investigation schools, and I will probably conclude the year with attempting to become a Drug Recognition Expert.

Throughout my time at my agency I have also done several month long stints temporarily assigned to our street crime unit.

    Greetins to all!

I was an MP in the U.S. army from 1986 until 1995 (3 active, one year off, five reserves) and have been a municipal police officer in Connecticut since 1997.

I was a patrol officer from 1997-2004, a patrol sergeant from 2004 to 2009, and have been the detective sergeant since 2009. I used to think being a patrol officer was the best job in the world, then I became a patrol sergeant and I thought that was the best job in the world. Then I became a detective sergeant, and I realized I was way, way wrong before, since being a detective sergeant is clearly the best job in the world!

I am also one of the department's firearms instructors (2000-present), I am in charge of the fatal MVA investigation team (been on that team since 1999), and am a former member of the SCUBA team.

My wife and I have triplets that will be five next month. I am an avid reader, a good chess player, and have been hopelessly addicted to Dungeons & Dragons since about 1983 or so.
