What steps are taken after arresting an illegal immigrant (in NJ) for shoplifting over $1,000.00, without family or money?

They would be booked into the jail on the shoplifting charge. It would be up to the arresting agencies policies whether ICE was informed of the arrest, but the shoplifter's immigration status makes no difference one way or another as far as the local charge goes.

They go to jail, just like everyone else.
On a clear night, I can see the other deputies emergency lights at least 10 miles away.
But it isnt flat here LOL
