I am new to the weapons market so I do not have a ton of knowledge on the subject of firearms. I will hopefully be graduating from the police academy in the next few weeks. I am going to need to purchase an off duty weapon. I would like a place that is really friendly and knowledgeable about their products and can help me make good choices. All suggestions and experiences are appreciated.

There is a gun shop in Rochelle Park (Bergen County) on Essex Street, just off exit 63 of Rt 80. It is directly opposite Harley Davidson of Bergen County. Ask for Vito, one of the owners, he should be able to help you out. PM me if you need more info.

Congrats on nearing the end. I see you folks out running each morning around 05:00 to 06:00 as I head into the Holland. As a passer I can see the improvement.

As for guns, all depends what you want! Some places are better than others and some are worse. Some give LEO discounts, others refuse.

One thing is for sure. While Rays (Plainfiled) has everything, their customer service and price SUCK! Go there to shoot, but otherwise stay away. I know a few places up near Mahwah if you going that far. All depends what you are looking and what area you consider north NJ.

North Jersey is pretty much anything north of the raritan bridge on the parkway. I used to work up by mahwah and am familiar with that area. As far as what I am looking for i really don't know. I think that is part of the problem

Wait till you graduate and get in your command then and ask around. See what policy dictates and what others have. There are always guys selling. That is even cheaper and easier when your own guys and gals are selling to you.

I know that as per dept policy we are only indemnified to carry 9 mm off duty. Service weapon is glock 19.

Hear me out. It wont let you in the door unless your a LEO, which, I find offensive at times to law abiding citizens.

However, it is pretty much bargain prices on brand new handguns. They sell AR-15/M4 type weapons, SWS (sniper weapon systems) of all types and a variety of handguns.

Glocks, any model whatsoever is 399.99. now it might not be a steal, but its cheaper than other gun shops. who want to charge 450-600 depending on the model.

it sucks they dont sell to civilians. but its a good store none-the less. its also a law enforcement supply center. so if you need it, they got it.
