    Downloading music.

Well, I've finally come out of the dark ages. :p I got an MP3 player for Christmas. Nothing fancy. Just a cheap SanDisk Sansa Clip. I have absolutley no idea of where to download songs from, other than Napster. I definately want to do it legally, so I'm willing to pay for service if it's not an outrageous price. Where do those of you that download get your music from?

Thanks, Valor. Does anyone know anything about this site:

    http://www.mp3rocket.com/indexcb.htm?hop=mu333

The "Legal" section confuses me a bit.

I own or did own an original cd/tape/record of every song on my External Drive. ;)

How can you prove the purchase/ownership of a mp3 over the Internet, to the RIAA's satisfaction, a few years later??

I've just always wondered that....

I use iTunes and know that it has a shop attached. I know that you can buy iTunes cards with a set dollar amount and purchase songs from the site "legally"

    And Creeker...

We had an orientation tour for training a few weeks back and went to our Property Office. The SGT there was explaining how (amongst other things) when found burnt CD's/DVD's are handed in or seized as exhibits etc, they are never returned to owner as they are considered illegal.

I coudn't be bother bringing it up, but I immediately thought about CD's burnt from legally downloaded music, or even home videos put onto DVD etc. No-one checks them, they are just destroyed!!!

That would be real nice if it was your collection of family photos that were stolen and found by Police then destroyed.

I use Wal-Mart music downloads. It's something like $0.88 per song. It will add a tab into your Windows Media Player to allow you to shop straight from there.

I use www.gomusic.ru it's a Russian site and is excellent value for money. i've been with the site for a couple of years now and as yet haven't had my credit card details used in any petrol stations in Kazakstan or had any horses heads pinned to my frontdoor, so i'm guessing it's fairly legitimate.

P.S if anyone joins and gives my details I get some free credit ;)

With http://www.mp3fiesta.com/ you have 48 hours after purchase to download the music and you can download it as many times as you need to in that time frame.

Just a semi-random note about re-downloading, etc. Walmart downloads lets you transfer your songs to up to two other computers, BUT... you have to back up your license files to do that.

Windows Media Player 11 REMOVED the functionality that let you do that. Why? I don't know, but they did. Hence why I just got done rolling back from WMP 11 to WMP 10.

I just saw a link from Drudge that the RIAA is now claiming that even copying a disc you own onto a computer is Piracy...

Those people are out of control and sabatoging themselves...

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...122800693.html

    ...
"Now, in an unusual case in which an Arizona recipient of an RIAA letter has fought back in court rather than write a check to avoid hefty legal fees, the industry is taking its argument against music sharing one step further: In legal documents in its federal case against Jeffrey Howell, a Scottsdale, Ariz., man who kept a collection of about 2,000 music recordings on his personal computer, the industry maintains that it is illegal for someone who has legally purchased a CD to transfer that music into his computer." ...

Looks like I am in trouble... I have backed up everything I own and a lot I used to own before I yard saled them... :O

I want to as well but the hardware is waaay more expensive than it should be because Apple is essentially its own monopoly. I may go Linux.
