Join the guard while you're in school. Since you're doing army, you're going to have to take a semester off to do basic and AIT. Well maybe not ait that may have to wait for the next year, depending on how long it is. If you want to do enlisted before you do officer that is the only way for you to do it while staying in school. The bad/good thing is you're going to have to find a unit you can drive to.
Question where are you going to school at? This will help me tremendously in seeing what you can still do. For example, my school has our own guard and reserve unit on campus. Therefore the out of state people don't need to go home to just go to drill. They can then find a unit they like (be it an mp unit, an infantry unit, artillery, whatever) and not be stuck with whatever unit is close to your school.
also for example, if you're in college and going through the ROTC way, you're going to have to go to one or two summers of 'training' to comission. Once you go to basic or advanced camp I can't remember you will sign a contract. Depending on how well you do at advanced camp, your GPA, and your PT score you will be assigned/given a choice of what to branch into. Engineering/infantry (good luck on this one lol)/aviation/armor/artillery/etc. You will then recieve your contract pay until you graduate (I believe you have to graduate within 2 years of going to advanced camp) and when you graduate, you will comission as an Army 2nd LT in whatever branch you chose/were given. Its a long process eitherway, you don't have that much time right now to decide either way.
Another example why it would be beneficial to know what school you're attending is the fact that mine has a 'pre-camp' program. Juniors throughout the year basically train for advanced camp that summer between their junior and senior years.
If you want to do this while in school and not after you graduate, you're going to need to jump on the ball and go talk to your rotc department about catching up.
