    About being an Army Officer?

I've been trying to find out a lot about some of the things that can be written into a contract without talking to a recruiter yet. Just to see what others know already. I have a year and a half left in college. There is an Army ROTC here, but I didn't join earlier because I couldn't decide if I wanted to go AF or Army. Now that I have decided on one, I would like to know if I can get going to Officer School in my contract with the army. I would like to serve enlisted at least two years, before going to OCS(or OTC get them mixed up). I would be willing to serve more before getting the opportunity to go to the Officer school, it's just that I would like to be both an officer and enlisted before leaving for civilian LE. I had though the Green to Gold program had to do with that, but I was wrong. It has to do with those already serving active who want to go back to college and get a degree. I've looked around and wasn't able to find anything when it came to what I would like. If I'm not able to I was still enlist and just keep trying to get into Officer School. If it doesn't work than it wasn't meant to be. I'll still enjoy as I serve at least two enlistment terms. Sorry if some of my questions sound almost the same or are repetitive. I will not be posting any threads for a while, instead opting to do more research and reading others' post. Thank You.

Join the guard while you're in school. Since you're doing army, you're going to have to take a semester off to do basic and AIT. Well maybe not ait that may have to wait for the next year, depending on how long it is. If you want to do enlisted before you do officer that is the only way for you to do it while staying in school. The bad/good thing is you're going to have to find a unit you can drive to.

Question where are you going to school at? This will help me tremendously in seeing what you can still do. For example, my school has our own guard and reserve unit on campus. Therefore the out of state people don't need to go home to just go to drill. They can then find a unit they like (be it an mp unit, an infantry unit, artillery, whatever) and not be stuck with whatever unit is close to your school.

also for example, if you're in college and going through the ROTC way, you're going to have to go to one or two summers of 'training' to comission. Once you go to basic or advanced camp I can't remember you will sign a contract. Depending on how well you do at advanced camp, your GPA, and your PT score you will be assigned/given a choice of what to branch into. Engineering/infantry (good luck on this one lol)/aviation/armor/artillery/etc. You will then recieve your contract pay until you graduate (I believe you have to graduate within 2 years of going to advanced camp) and when you graduate, you will comission as an Army 2nd LT in whatever branch you chose/were given. Its a long process eitherway, you don't have that much time right now to decide either way.

Another example why it would be beneficial to know what school you're attending is the fact that mine has a 'pre-camp' program. Juniors throughout the year basically train for advanced camp that summer between their junior and senior years.

If you want to do this while in school and not after you graduate, you're going to need to jump on the ball and go talk to your rotc department about catching up.

    Thanks but no thanks

I'm not going to take off a semester from school to join the guards when I'm only a year and a half away from graduation. Secondly, I don't want to be in the guards, I want enlisted active duty. I've already talked to the ROTC people and it is to late for me to join. Besides I want to get an intern during the summers(if that doesn't happen I will do summer school). Why is it that you said I can't go into the military until after grad. I figured that I couldn't get it written into my contract, but that still won't stop me from going enlisted like I planned on doing. After, enlisted plan on staying with the reserves. I'll see once I get in If I will be able to go into officer school later during my enlistment term. Most of what you said had to do with ROTC which I already talked to them about last semester. Thank you anyways.

you asked about officer questions. said you wanted to do both if possible. If you just want active duty, and then reserves then there is no problem. Go sign up with your local AD recruiter and thats that.

You may be able to get a chance to go to OCS, you may not. Thats entirely up to how well you do at MEPS, and what the army needs. If they don't need an officer, they don't have to offer you the chance to become one.

you cannot get OCS written into your contract unless you go immediatly after basic. I.E, Enlist in the army attend basic training enlisted, then right on to OCS, that is possible but its the only way, as far as being an officer. You can apply for OCS at any time during your enlistment, granted you meat the qualifications. Also dont way out Warrant Officer school, lots of great oppurtunities there
