Perhaps he legally owned it. I know several people that own one.
Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine

Weapons of any type are controlled, logged + tagged to the Armory he would have had to steal it from the base and has some questions to answer if he took a true M4 home to show his cousin who turned against him; idiot.
I am confused as to why a law enforcement officer would refer to an AR15, AK or SKS as an "assault rifle?"
I never hear any cops around here call them that. Is it a geographical thing?
This career is not a sprint, it is a marathon.
I asked the question because you do not hear law enforcement officers in this area of the country using the media favorite "assault weapon" terminology. It is also a favorite term used by anti-gun folks, liberals and those who possess no true knowledge regarding the weapon nomenclature.
It you are not familiar with semi-automatic rifles such as the AR, AK or SKS, that would explain it. If you were only quoting the news, that would explain it. If the cops in your area call them "assault rifles" that would explain it.
Are you in to the conspiracy stuff, is that why you alluded to an "ulterior motive?"![]()

On a clear night, I can see the other deputies emergency lights at least 10 miles away.
But it isnt flat here LOL
So why take it there? Kinda like entering a lions den with a T-bone strapped around your neck (<retarded)..“A weapon like that being in a neighborhood like that is not a good combination,” the soldier said.
wsbtv has a little more detail and a video, But it wont let me post the link. (Google it)
It was his personal rifle according to the report. Apparently it was an "M4" like full auto 14 inch barrel.... Right .......
looks like a 16 inch semi from the video but Who cares. As far as the media is concerned ANY semi auto rifle is a "Assault Rifle".. Hopefully nobody gets killed with it..

>>The translation assault rifle gradually became the common term for similar firearms sharing the same technical definition as the StG 44. In a strict definition, a firearm must have at least the following characteristics to be considered an assault rifle:
It must be an individual weapon with provision to fire from the shoulder (i.e. a buttstock);
It must be capable of selective fire;
It must have an intermediate-power cartridge: more power than a pistol but less than a standard rifle or battle rifle;
Its ammunition must be supplied from a detachable box magazine. -- Wikipedia<<
OK, now that we've got that settled, let's get back to the topic of the thread..We've strayed too far off topic.![]()

Soldier Beaten, Assault Rifle Stolen - News Story - WSB Atlanta
Regardless of whether he owned it or stole it, what the heck was he doing with it on the night he got the living Sh#t beat outta him? I would be more inclined to think he stole it, since this happened in a rough section of Atlanta and wouldn't be surprised at anything that happened here.

Since when has having zero "facts" ever held him back?
I've been fighting to keep myself from blasting him for his ignorant assumptions all evening.
His "stay on topic" rant almost set me off...
He also seems to believe certain classes of people shouldn't be allowed to own certain kinds of rifles or have them in certain areas.
I strongly suspect that if the rifle belonged to the Army, that would have been stated in the story. That would be to big a deal not to mention.
I still bet it was his own gun and if it was and it was owned legally, that's fine with me.
