Air Force Security Forces? Grunts? No Way!

I've been reading a lot of post on how the Air Force Security Forces or how they like to put it SF is the same as Grunts, not even close! You ride around in patrol cars and pull security on missle sites. I have yet to hear of any of the AFSF doing any rescue, Airfield Seisure, or Raids or anything the Army and Marine Grunts are doing on a daily basis. I sugest you stick to what you signed up to do and be an MP or SP. You went into the Force that you were told was the easiest and everyone in all the Forces know it, so unless you actually get out and go into the Infantry in one of the other Forces, just keep your mouths shut and have some Respect for the men that are out there putting their as^%$^& on the line everyday and did not want to take the easy way out. Sorry if you find this a little rough but no Infantryman runs around talking about how they do the job of The air forces security forces. Wake up and realize you don't get the respect without the title and the title is Infantry.

Are you even in the military? I learned long ago that as long as your serve, it does not matter. We need every service without one others would suffer. We are all on one team and that means one fight until you figure that out pay attention to your NCO's and Officers above you; you have alot to learn.

Doesn't sound like it. At the most, he just finished AIT.

    Not here you haven't.

You must be BRAND new, then. SF and Army/Marine Corps MP's are all doing raids, house to house fighting/clearing and everything else the infantry is doing - including crew-served weapons.
I sugest you stick to what you signed up to do and be an MP or SP.
See the above. You obviously know nothing of their mission.

Everyone in our military has a job to do and it requires a team effort, jackass.
Of every one hundred men, ten should not even be here. Eighty are nothing but targets. Nine are real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the One... One of them is a Warrior... He will bring the others back.

    "Wrong door, buddy!"

Maybe you should know what you are talking about before you open your mouth and insert your foot?

Excerpts from "Security Forces Mission Constantly Evolving"

Through the eyes of Staff Sgt. David Brown, the mission of the security forces has changed since the beginning of the war in Iraq. After all, this is his eighth deployment since Operation Iraqi Freedom started.

As a sign of things to come, Airmen from the 386th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron were kicking down doors while going through military operations in urban terrain, or MOUT, training May 19.

"When people think of Air Force, they don't think of guys on the ground, kicking down doors, searching buildings, doing Army-type work," said Sergeant Brown, who is deployed from Charleston Air Force Base, S.C. "When people see us doing it, it's an eye opener."

"We've adapted," Sergeant Brown said. "On my first few deployments we would see (troops from) other services but never work with them. Lately, we have been working side-by-side with Army, Navy and Marine expeditionary units."

The future of security forces in combat

    by Col. Brad Spacy
U.S. Air Force Headquarters Security Forces and Force Protection

1/24/2006 - WASHINGTON -- In the early morning hours of Jan. 1, 2005, the first combat patrols of Operation Desert Safeside left the northern perimeter of Balad Air Base, Iraq, and began an aggressive 60-day combat operation to kill or capture insurgents attacking the air base. This was a historic mission for Air Force security forces. It was bold, put Airmen at risk, and the stakes were high. We knew the results of Operations Desert Safeside would have far-reaching implications on the future of Air Force security forces as a credible ground combat force.

Operation Desert Safeside was carried out by the men and women of Task Force 1041. Specially built around a squadron of the 820th Security Forces Group, TF 1041 was led by a young security forces lieutenant colonel named Chris Bargery, chosen for his reputation as an innovative combat leader. TF 1041's designated area of operations was one of the most violent areas in the region, roughly 10 kilometers wide and 6 deep, from the Balad perimeter fence to the Tigris River.

Throughout January and February 2005, Colonel Bargery led the men and women of TF 1041 in more than 500 combat missions that included raids, ambushes, and sniper operations aimed at taking back the initiative enjoyed by the enemy for more than two years.

TF 1041 did not disappoint. In just 60 days they captured 17 high value targets, eight major weapons caches, 98 other insurgents and reduced enemy attacks from their area of operations to nearly zero. And although TF 1041 endured numerous firefights, improvised explosive devices and indirect fire attacks, they sustained no injuries. Operation Desert Safeside was by all accounts an overwhelming success.

It's an argument dudes it really is. The Air Force is light weight. I did it for eight years and feel I know. How ever it is a sick argument. I did nukes for eight years and had mega tons of stuff sighted on me, and knew that at any time I was a grunt! It's a team dude...lead, follow, or get out of the way.

I was working one night with another cop who was in the AF the same time I was in the Army. He described his basic and I couldn't believe it. He spent one morning on the range learning to disassemble a M-1 Carbine and then qualified with it that afternoon. That was the one and only time he touched a weapon. He said they ran the obstacle course once during his rigorous 6 weeks of basic.....

However, he had nearly a year of training to be a radar repairman and spent a year up in Alaska at some outpost in the middle of nowhere with 27 other men. . It was guys like him that kept Russians from flying bombers and missiles over the North Pole. I appreciate the hell out of the job he did.

    Grunt42,

Check youself, and do so quickly. We don't care what branch anyone serves in, we think all branches are very important. We don't care what MOS anyone is or what job they, all are important! From the folks peeling potatoes, those order supplies, to those on the front line pulling a trigger, each job is needed, has a purpose, and supports the entire team mission. Your logic is flawed.

We are not going to allow a thread bashing military folks due to MOS and somebody thinks they are better than another. It is a disgrace to allow such and quite frankly, you should be ashamed for yourself. You use the word "respect" a lot, how ironic you complain about it but show none. If you can't self regulate yourself, we can do it for you.

    Thank you!
-In God we trust. All others, put your hands on the car and don't move.

    Who jerked your chain anyway?

If you really have to define how important you are by comparing yourself to the duties of someone else, generally that means you have some serious internal issues. Last time I checked, the enemies were the guys flying planes into our buildings. When one sacrifices for their country, the uniform, rank, or even if they ar in the military means jack squat. Plenty of civilians have died fighting for the same country. Time to check your attitude.

You're probably not too far off. I was guessing that, or he just got picked up for a DUI on a local AFB.

    I was Security Police 1978-82.

In 1980 , I went to ABGD ( Air Base Ground Defense ) training at Camp Bullis , Texas. We were trained on the actual use of.... M-60 ( of which I had a 2 WEEK training on that alone) , hand grenades , M-203 grenade launcher, claymores , 81mm mortar , .50 cal mg , 90mm recoiless rifle and the M-40 automatic genade launcher . Not exactly the normal tools of a " security guard ."

We also used the " deuce " and the M-113 armored personnel carrier.

We ate Viet Nam era C-Rations ( yes CANS) while living in the bush or in MASH style tents in January ( yes it gets cold in Texas too ) .

We played a war game against the 82nd Airborne where we captured an entire squad asleep.

We may not have the " full " nomenclature as " infantry " but we did / do a LOT more than you think , and this was 30 YEARS ago.

While you are at it , also check out the USAF Para-Rescue.

This grunt character conducted a drive-by here at RP with his post. He has not been back since the post.

With this in mind, it is extremely doubtful any worthwhile discourse can be expected and this thread is being closed.
