I could care less about someone's orientation, but she was probably going to end up getting the boot anyway. The AF would've found out about the partner and the partners crimes anyway. She's just mad it happened on someone elses terms. Like I said I could care less, as long as you do the job and don't hit on me, I say let them serve.
"The enemy of my enemy is probably still my enemy."
I don't know, Jake if I were single and a lesbian were hitting on me....just saying.
I find it odd that she is so concerned about keeping this a secret, yet she got married? Seems like with all the publicity, if she wanted to keep her sexual orientation a secret, getting married was probably not the best move.
One Big Ass Mistake America
On the surface, it looks like they notified the AF only because they were pissed that she wouldn't come home and assist them, which she had no obligation to do. If the AF was going to discharge her, it should be done because her partner is a crook, not because she's lesbian.
I think it's a stupid rule to begin with. I worked with some gay cops and I didn't feel my manhood the least bit threatened by their presence. I've sure never seen any gay cops hit on straight guys like was so feared by some homophobes in my dept.
When I was enlisted, I saw a guy drummed out of the Army on some pretty weak accusations being gay. I don't know what it's like now, but the burden of proof then was almost non existent. This was an accusation by one guy (who I thought was an asswipe even before) and the soldier was gone. I don't know if he was gay or not, but he was a good guy, did his job well. A lot of us were pissed at the way he was treated.
Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine
My Little Buddy
When I was in the navy and army both, there were homosexuals, in fact a lot of them, but I've never had one to make a pass at me or to act out of the ordinary and all were strictly business and good military men and women whether in private or in a group. They all seemed to be family oriented, in fact more so than the average guy and were always talking fondly of their parents, brothers, sisters and other close family relatives back in civilian life.
I think most have formed the wrong impression of disciplined, military gays and lesbians and have placed them all in one category, as a bunch of drooling, lusting, sex hungry queers who hang out in locker rooms, around urinals, the shower stalls, Etc. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth as from my association with them, most appeared like they could care less sexually for those they worked with as most had only one steady lover who was usually a civilian living off post.
There was a graduate lesbian MP in my detachment who was the daughter of PA police chief in. This gal was about 6' 2' weighed betweent 185-190 pounds and was much of a woman and could hold her own with the biggest and meanest drunk. She was a tiger and hell on both male and female GI's when they got out of line.
As an old Calvary man once said when asked ' I don't care as long as they don't scare the horses. The guy that said that wore 2 stars. I figure that probably as good an outlook as possible.
If their jobs are being done correctly and professionally, who cares? In my experience, nothing screws up a unit more than a couple of heterosexuals who couldn't keep their love life in check. Regardless of your orientation, if whatever you are doing starts to mess with business and others then you have failed.
For me, before there was the Thin Blue Line, there was the Blood Stripe! Semper Fi!
Our fear reminds us that we are not God, our faith reminds us that He is!
**DISCLAIMER** I'm not a current LEO, but have six years experience with two city PD's in NC and TX as a sworn officer. I'm in the process of returning to LEO work ASAP.
The military "legalised" homsexuality here in the mid 90's. Other than allowing gays and lesbians to openly admit their orientation, nothing changed at all.
Personally, I never had that high an opinion of myself that I thought every gay man would want to hit on me to worry about it that much. And if one did, then I would take it as no more of an incident than if a female hit on me that I was not interested in.
I've got plenty of gay friends, and none of them have ever hit on me or made me feel uncomfortable. In fact now that I think about it, I am going to ask them why. What's wrong with me? Aren't I good enough?
I have lesbian couple friends that are all pro-gay marriage. I told them that I supported gay marriage as long as both people were of opposite sex....so Ellen Degeneres can marry Elton John...they told me I was an idiot. I also told them that I support gay marriage because I didn't think it was right for only straight people to be miserable......my wife hit me. I rest my case.![]()
