Yeah. Not something they put on the "Join the Coast Guard" posters!

LoL! I remember going to a naval ship recently to do an interview, and as I approach the pier you can see several sailors lined up to take out probably at least a hundred bags of trash (the ship had just come back from deployment). I remember thinking, "This isn't what the recruiters ever mention."
I think it was a 2nd class I interviewed once who showed this to me:

Ya, I spent my 6 years active duty trying not to do thatI managed to never be on a ship!
Loved the small boats!!!
Its funny, as dirty and ****ty as that work looks, most people that worked on buoy tenders say they enjoyed the experience.
Great video, ROS. Cool to see officers and enlisted participating in something like that..... The Army, at least used to be, way too uptight to allow something like that.

Probably so. That tightassed attitude was tiresome.
Just before I got out, I ran into an E-7 that I worked for when I was enlisted. I thought the world of this guy back then and we decided to go have a few beers in town. We went in civilian clothes, of course. I got to laughing and joking with him and a couple of his friends and we were using first names. I just had a great time. He just told his friends that I used to work for him, he didn't tell them my rank.
Well, apparently some jerkoff from my battalion recognized me and ratted me off. I got a royal *** cleaning from the battalion XO and my captain. My DOS was coming up so I was able to politely tell them I didn't give a **** and that wasn't the only "issue" I had with the Army at that point. Since I was getting out in a couple of months and I was reasonably respectful in the way I responded, I got away with it, but I knew they weren't going to miss me much......If officers and enlisted fraternized the way those sailors did to make that video, the asswipes I worked for would have had heart attacks.
My older brother was a career Army officer. I never understood how he put up with all the bull**** in the officer corps and he never understood how I lasted as long as I did.![]()
