Astronomical avatar of the week: The Hourglass Nebula: This formation of gasses was created when a dying star gently ejected its outer layers forming a glowing region of ionized gas as seen in the photo. The remaining core is known as a white dwarf, seen in the center. Our sun will leave a similar corpse behind after expending its nuclear fuel. This nebula is located in the constellation Musca, the fly, visible only in the southern hemisphere.

I believe this is what you wanted to show......
That is wild. Where did this occur?
Wonderer
Did anyone else find that disturbing?
They are Iraqis outside of Baghdag a couple days before we rolled in.
Looks like their gun is hot, they had a chance to give up but instead they got blown away, very distrubing.
I didn't find it disturbing that they got gunned down. Looks to me that they had a RPG in their hands, heard the chopper.. and got scared. I found that video pretty cool. I have one from a AC-130 that blew up a few guys and their trucks.

Gun Control is hitting what you aimed at.
The AC-130 is a bad boy. I've seen a couple of pictures of it firing at dusk and in the dark. That thing throws a lot of lead. I'm glad that the military still uses the gunship instead of retiring it. It has to scare the hell out of the enemy that our troops can set behind trees or in the dark hundreds of yards away while listening and seeing everything they do. The Apache must be why Sadaam decided not to draw his sword and fight like he told his troops he would. I love how the terrorists vowed to stand and fight but ran scared when our troops rolled in.
Wonderer
What is amazing is not only how much lead it can chuck out, but how accurrate it is from the altitudes it flies at during a combat missions. There was a time lapse photo taken of a AC-130 showing its 105mm shells going through the night sky... all the rounds were hitting their target.

Roger that...
I am just a lonely Cadet in Civil Air Patrol. I didnt see any weapon but then again I could've been blind to it. I am glad mission was a sucsess. I just dont know if I watch people loosing there lives.. It's a moral issue I guess I have to have with my self. Thanks for your understanding. Can someone show me how I can tell if they were holding a weapon I really cant see it...
The spectre gunship can annhilate 100yds sq with its machine guns alone. Death isn't 'cool'. Its a sad fact of war.
The weapons weren't in their hands anymore, but apparantly they were placing them to use later, or soon after they were planted, In fact the last one killed didn't even look like he was talking to the other two unless he was the driver of the duce and a half. However higher said to take them out, so the pilots did their job and killed.

The light grey or white object you see on that infrared video is a probably a RPG. Its tubular looking and around the same length. My guess is that they heard the choppers, and decided to "hide" their weapons. They never thought of infrared thoughOriginally Posted by Srebeiro
Got caught, and paid the price. I have no remorse for any thing that points a weapon at a US service man or woman.
