I know this is an old post but I don't believe this to be true. USMC sends their MP's to the USAF school. At least they did when I went thru back in '87.

So the USMC MP's were getting the same training that the USAF SP's were getting. Oh the horror USMC devil dogs being trained by us lowly USAF best armed branch of the cub scouts types. :D

Knowing what I know now if I had to re-enlist again tomorrow I'd still pick USAF. Maybe not the SP field but I'd still choose USAF.

My brother is still with USAF but not with SF any more and he told me that the whole SF field has changed to a more "infantry" role. From what I understand lots of USAF SF people are attending different Army schools, like sniper, counter sniper, & Ranger school.

Unless I'm horribly wrong, I believe Ft. Leonard Wood is still an ARMY installation. ;)

    Calendar
Of every one hundred men, ten should not even be here. Eighty are nothing but targets. Nine are real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the One... One of them is a Warrior... He will bring the others back.

So is Camp Bullis but I'll bet the USAF outnumbers the Army there any day of the week

I don't know. I just know the Army runs the MP training at Ft. Leonard Wood. I've got no clue what they do at Camp Bullis.

    Camp Bullis Training Site

The USAF SF uses this base to do their infantry/combat tactics / heavy weapons training. They do M-60, claymores, 81 mm mortar, 90 mm recoiless rifle. M-203 and MK-40 grenade launcher training there.

I did some research awhile back because I was considering going Army MP and it sounded to me like they where going away and DA Police where going to take over. Also talked to a Airforce SF guy last weekend and he said that it is also what he has heard for the Airforce. Is that the same for all other branches of service.

I was at MCRD San Diego a few weeks ago. There was an MP (Lance Criminal) and a civilian "police officer" at the gate. Everything I've heard has the DoD making MP MOS/Rate field duty or corrections.

I know for a fact that in 1997, the USMC canine handlers were being trained by the USAF at Lackland AFB. I have a photograph the barracks with few guys looking through the curtains wondering why I was taking the picture. The barracks had a USMC sign in the front grass and a placard over the entrance door. It was also one of the old 1950's buildings, not the nice new ones the AF stayed in which were fairly equivalent to civilian apartments.

When I went through LE Tech in 1973 at Lackland, I never saw any Marines there.

However, also during the '97 tour (there to see my daughter graduate) we were able to see some fairly advanced tactical training in progress where units were practicing broach and securing of large aircraft near the Security Forces Tech School grounds.

I did observe different uniforms, but some of those could have been foriegn troops there for training. Other than the Marines I saw looking out the window, I did see plenty of US Army troops and a couple of Navy walking around. Lackland is a rather large training base so it is quite possible different branches are there for technical training.
This career is not a sprint, it is a marathon.

I also saw DoD civlian police teamed up with the USAF base police at F.E. Warren. They were at the main gate. The patrol vehicles rolling around appeared to only have AF cops in them.

Best of my knowledge (95B MP US Army 92-98) ALL services Police went through the USAF K-9 course, USAMPS did not have the classes available and the USAF had the assets in place. I did not go that route but had a few friends that did, one thing for sure is that all US Army dog units that I came into contact with had dogs that were slightly "off". I think that Army does (or did, don't know now) a great dis-service to the handler and the dogs by not maintaining a permanent "partnership". I do, however, look back and remember a few nasty fights in infantry country, creating a perimeter, waiting for the working dogs, opening the door a crack, and yelling; "Militaryworkingdogcomingingetonthegroundanddonotm ove"! It was like kicking over an ant hill. God that was always funny.

As for the USMC MP's, they went through the USAMPS school with us in Alabama, and now at Ft. Lost in the Woods. All the same secondary courses, SRT (phase 1 & 2), MPI, TAI, Poly, PST (PSD was pretty much service wide, we had all branches to include some civilian depts).

The K9 handlers and Correctional Specialist in the USMC go to Lackland. MP's go to Ft. Wood. Source: My neighbor is the Master Gunnery Sargeant and head of operations at the Marine Corps Detachment at Lackland. We talk.
