becoming a officer in Air Force

I'm currently in college wanting to join the Air Force. My school has an army ROTC not Af. In my senior year I plan on applying to the officer school(OTS or OCS i get the two mixed up). I know it's not an easy thing to do, but I was wondering how many people do they accept year compared to how many apply. Another question I had was I know that you really don't have a choice in where you are assigned, but do they try to get you where you prefer or is it solely up to them. There is really only one job that I don't think I would want to do. That would be flying any type of aircraft. I know it's the air force, but there are so many other jobs I would love to do. If not I'll just go in enlisted(money doesn't matter I'm young, single with no kids).

I can guarantee that they wont "make" you fly anything. Right now they're only taking the best and brightest to fly aircraft meaning that there is a low demand for pilots but a high application rate. I bet any other job in the air force would be much more easier to get. Still since the economy isnt that great many have taken to join the military making even officer schools push many away. I'd say to be even considered you best have a very high GPA, great references and strong leadership roles. Also where they send you will probably be due to the needs of the air force not your preference. You might say I'd love Georgia and get Japan.
There is nothing like what I have become.

There are many, many ways to become an officer in the air farce. I recommend you start with the guard recruiters and get all that info, then reserve then active duty. Its a lot of information to process, so be ready. Flying is actually not that easy a billet to get. outside the army, the air force is the easiest way to become an ocifer. use your computer and research each type of officer before you go to the recruiter, itll help you ask more productive questions.

Ive looked into the guard/reserve side myself, so ive got a little info on tap ill help in any way possible

Outside of speaking to a recruiter, I'd suggest for you to contact a couple fly clubs. I'm sure there are many Veteran Pilots belonging to various fly clubs in your area. They could provide you with a wealth of information and may possibly send you on the right path.

I thought you had to have prior training to go to OCS?! (like ROTC or prior service)

    CX,

That's what I thought too. He mentioned there was an Army ROTC program at school, but didn't indicate he went through ROTC.

I believe if enlists active duty, he'll need to request to have his commander approve him for OCS. There's no gurantee that would happen.

    Mason,

That's one heck of a deal the AF gives.

Much of the military does not require you to have active duty experience to go to OCS. In the Navy people put in for it right after or a few years down the road from college and if they get picked they go for 13 weeks of Marine Corps training.
