    November 11

Remembrance Day is tomorrow. This would be the U.S equivalent of Veterans Day.

Dedicated to all those that served in war - we thank you and your sacrifice will never be forgotten. We honour those that died for our freedom - and for those that are presently serving...

To my Dad - who became a father at 58 and served in WWII in the Canadian Navy - I miss you

    In Flanders Fields
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
    In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
    In Flanders fields.

I always watch the Queen lay her wreath at the bottom of the cenotaph in London and then watch all the war veterans walk past, every year less and less turn out. Brings a lump to my throat I can tell you.

    We will never forget you.

This is kinda silly, but everytime I see someone with the Purple Heart logo on their license plate, I have the kids hold up our homemade cardboard "Thank You Vet" sign. My 12 yr old has out grown the 'thrill' but my 5 yr old loves it. She's a purple heart hunter now. Just something I started to keep them occupied.

I think about all the VETS past and present - most of the males in my family served in the Army - my niece and son in the USAF, my uncle in the Navy. I thank God we didn't lose anyone in any of the wars. But, my heart especially goes out to those who had no one to grieve for them, the ones that had no family, the ones that joined up to have a sense of family and home.

It's my wedding anniversary. 3 years down, rest of my life to go :D. I thought 11-11 would be easy to remember so I won't get in trouble. Thank you to all the vets past, present, and future for letting me live here in safety. Your lives and sacrifices shall never be forgotten.
