Hello!! We are still at WAR!!!!!

For those of you that are not in the military and think that just because the President declared the end of major military operations in Iraq a few months ago....THINK AGAIN!!

Just because it is not on CNN or MSNBC all day long...we still have thousands of our brothers and sisters over there serving our country....

And unfortunately, we are still losing them at a cyclic rate....if you don't believe me go to this web site...

    http://www.defenselink.mil/releases/

Then once you are done...e-mail that website to everyone you know so that the nation can wake up an realize that we are still a nation at WAR...

We HAVE gotten that sort of reception.

    Outside the Sunni Triangle.

People look at the images on TV, which are of course almost exclusively bad news from the Bahgdad/Tikrit area, and they think that the entire country is like that.

There are simply some people in the US who will never have a nice thing to say about anything the administration does and it colors everything the see.

I understand their now is a Burger King or McDonalds open in Iraq. Needless to say there wasn't before. I am not saying their is no down side to being there ( my neice is in Iraq with the 101 st) but they sure do skip the positives that have happened.

At some point , I think it would be good for them to sell us some oil at a discount to help pay for their liberation. A lot of American lives and money have paid to free them.

To a certain extent, I agree. However, if we start getting cheap oil, that's going to get a lot of people pissed off and will just add fuel to the argument that we went in there for the oil and not for the people. Iraqis, Europeans, and many Americans would start bitching and moaning awfully quick if we decided to do that. In the short term, I think it would be good for us, but looking in the long term, I don't think it would be worth it. If I have to pay $30 (or whatever) more a year in taxes to support the war, the occupation, and our troops then so be it.

    Knucklehead,

One of the reasons we do not see our brothers and sisters in arms interviewed anymore is because the morale is way down.

Many of our soldiers are upset with the way our government and Military have handled the fight on terrorism.

Many of our soldiers feel as though they are sitting ducks waiting to be picked off.

It's a complicated situation in the Middle East. We are doing our best to identify the terrorists, but it isn't an easy task. We cannot complete this job overnight, if ever. Especially, when there are terrorists entering Iraq from other countries. They are striking by suicide bombing and/or hitting and fleeing.

The best that we can do for our troops, as citizens and Vets, is support them. One way you may support them is by adopting one or two for Christmas. Sending a care package and/or card would be a nice way to show your support.

    just my two cents

I think pretty much everyone realizes that we are still at war. yes we are still losing soldiers everyday. We lost soldiers everyday prior to invading Iraq and Afghanistan too. The Army will lose fewer soldiers this year (a time of war) than last year ( a time of peace). Amazing, but true...

I didn't say sell us oil for free , a discount indicates they would still make some money. And I am not demanding they do this but it would be a nice gesture on their part. Afterall, we did spend a lot of lives and money in their country.

Not one person in todays military was drafted. Every one was a volunteer as I was 25 yrs ago. I went to Korea which is still at "war" with North Korea. Anyone who enlists has got to know that it is possible to go to a hostile area. Period.

Not that this is a morale booster. At least we are fighting back and causing damage.

Did anyone catch 60 minutes yesterday. The story on the POW's from the first Gulf war. What do you think about that? Do you think the government should free up Iraqi money to pay them? I think so, it is the least we can do.

    yahcanmicrowave,

Most definitely! They deserve every penny of it.

We expect casualties during war, but we are not currently in a declared war. We are in police action with Iraq. There's a big difference between the two. Each life taken is a huge loss to America.

Still, better to fight them over there, than here in the US.

Besides, it needs to be done.

BTW, while there are always morale problems whenever soldiers are being targeted and aren't allowed to go on a bloody rampage in return, the overall attitudes of the military over there are still pretty good.

Or at least, that's what my sources tell me.

What war? isn't this another police action? I am wondering when they are going to deliver the donuts.

We went to war with Iraq because of a threat of WMD. We found trace evidence they existed and found abandoned factories reinforcing Bush's suspicions. However, I feel we called the war off way too soon. When we went into police action, this is when we lost too many of our boys/gals. My feeling is that we should have not let up on our choke hold until we had a better understanding of friend or foe.

As for morale, I think it varies from company to company. When I lived in Cali., the news media reported issues of low morale. Of course, that was a couple of months ago.
