I was wondering if there was anybody in here that was or is in the Reserves while they are a police officer?

I'm assuming you mean the military reserves.
If so, there are many Police Officers that are part of the reserves. I personally am not but I work with some who are.
Army National Guard here.
Batman was in the Air National Guard several years back, he is now considering joining the Coast Guard reserves.

I was six weeks into the police academy when my Guard Unit got activated. I am home now and waiting for the next calss to start. It sucked having to drop out but now that I am a combat veteran it can only help my career in the long run.
I was in the PA Air Guard when I was hired. My 3 year enlistment ran out the next month and I didn't re-up as I knew I would be on midnights and didn't want to work all night and the next day .

Why would you have to? You are entitled to military leave, to include time off prior to and returning from drill in order to be fully rested before returning to your civilian workOriginally posted by mcsap

Marine reserves here for 6 years now. Most departments (not all) are very supportive of their reservists. If not, there is USERRA and ESGR available to help mediate employer conflicts. It is a federal crime for your employer to descriminate against you for reserve service.
And its usually a bear PROVING anything, because after the first employee that drags them uip under those regs, they are MUCH more careful the next time they want to mess with a Reservist.Originally posted by rurrata

I'm encouraging Batman to go forward with the reserves. Collecting two retirements sounds good to me, providing he doesn't trade me in for two twenty year olds when I turn 40.

CJ, since 911 a lot have things have changed. You might want to ask someone who ask actual authority for the federal level departments. I have seen your posts and have seen your interest in federal level law enforcement. I am almost certain that since 911 the the federal level do not hire applicants who are active reserve. Inactive reserve is a different story though, they'lll hire you.

I was in the Army National Guard when I started up. I got out shortly after finishing the academy, though. I did a total of 8 years. I loved it.... 2 MOSes and ROTC did a lot for me.![]()
I have a few friends still doing it. It can be very tough if you are in an office where special assignments are frequent (they average 3 weeks each). It seems you are always split training, trying to make up for the weekends you miss. I know a couple guys that have been deployed for the last year. It does not hurt their career, but the deployment certainly does not help them (at least short term).
