This is not a Law Enforcement book, but it does have applications for LE. The books name is Verbal Judo, it is written by George J. Thompson. I have read this and it has helped me everyday at work!

It's great for @ home use, too.

I'd recommend it. Some of it is a little out there but alot of it is pretty useful. It also has bit of humor in it.
I picked up a copy of it last week, Good book with some good tactics.
Been around for decades and I still call it "gerbil voodoo!"

This is a great book to start with. I have used 'verbal judo' in almost every aspect of my life. Even works with the teen of the house.
However, it did not work when I was trying to talk the doc out of surgery I needed...
'Sir, is there anything I can do to get you to think I don't need surgery?'
'um...no'.
eh..I tried.
..
lmao I was in the hospital one time when I was in my early teens. Thought I had appendicitis. Thought I was gonna get cut open. Scared me to death so, when the doctor was poking my abdomen, I gritted my teeth and told him that it didn't hurt. He bought it - no surgery. Luckily it wasn't appendicitis (that would've been not so good) :D

Great book so far. An officer at the Police Station where I'm taking my internship let me borrow his copy. I'm half way through so far.
It seems to be helping already, with arguments around the house, etc. I recommend it to everyone.
We had some of this training at FLETC, it was pretty good stuff but I prefer the ATM method. (Ask, Tell, Make)
With some people VJ will work...just don't forget to go hands on...sometimes we have so many cool tools (taser, OC, Baton, etc) we forget about using the hands.
I think NYPD does a ton of VJ training.
I believe that with the pennsylvania academy cadets are introduced to VJ but I'm not sure how extensive the training is. I've learned quite a bit so far from the book, a lot of it is common sense but it is important that Thompson brings it to light while explaining some of his other theories.
