    FOID and Freedom of information

I just read something about someone from the Associated Press filing a FOIA to obtain the names of FOID card holders. Does anyone know why they want this information?
I have personal opinions about the FOID card in general, but to have a list of people who are exercising their rights seems odd to me.

I view it as a right, rather than a privilege like holding a drivers license.

Usually helps if you define an acronym that isn't common knowledge... what is "FOID?"

Sorry, I thought since it was in the Illinois forum it was common knowledge. It's the Firearm Owners Identification Card. Something everyone has to have if they own any firearm anywhere in the state.

There was a battle over than in Oregon. Some sheriff's refused at first, but I think they finally lost the lawsuit.
Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine

What does the media do with that information? Or is it someone holding to the reporters creed that their "right to know, supercedes your right to exist"?

You afraid you'll be tracked down and killed because you hold one? Unfortunately, it's public record.

Here, I think they just wanted it so they could check for themselves after the fact if someone did something stupid had one. They never published a list of CCW holders.

Not worried about that. I am just trying to wrap my mind around the why of it. The right to know versus right to exist thing is from a radio comedy bit that used to air in Cincinnati....I think it was Gary Burbank or something.
