It is still and ongoing investigation, but the ballistic report is finished. The officer did shoot towards the group of civilians, but not directly (according to his defence). I think it's best to waιt and see.

Most of that scene are while the big riots in Greece, mostly in Athens and other big greek cities a few month ago. Officers got killed and a lot got hurt by the crowds (just look at all the stones, rocks, glass pebbles, fires and the "peacefull" demonstrators with the masks in front of their faces.

I understand when one or a few more had a powerfull use of force in that time. Have you ever seen the italian Carabinieri, the spanish Guardia Civil or the turkish riot police while in action? Just give youtube a try.
