    Car Wash fraudulent

I heard about a free car wash code in the summer from some friends that said the manager at the gas station had created. Since then i have used it twice and today when i went to use it the code was invalid so i just used my card, no big deal but than a lady came out and took down my license plate and waited for me at the end of the car wash. she handed me a letter that read "just to make you aware, we are currently investigating a claim with regard to a fraudulent car wash code. the code you attempted to use is part of the ongoing investigation. please be advised that you vehicle information and physical description will be turned over to the police to assist in the investigation." I parked and got out and talked to the lady, who ended up being the manager, i had her further explain what this was about and she said that 4 people have already been charged with felonies and the car wash has been being observed for over a year w/o letting people know so the charges would add up on you. I told her where i heard about the code and she said that she has been the manager for 11 years. She also told me that if the cops are going to call it will be in about 2 weeks.. I'm freaking out because the car is under my parents name, i just turned 18 2 months ago, and the if charges are filed my dad would be the one getting in trouble.. What is the possibility that a felony could be charged against me? Is there anything i can do? Do you think the cops are after just the individuals who used the code multiple times? Because where i live, almost every teenager knows about the code and uses it.. i'm just scared and i don't know what to do. So if you could please just give me some advice and let me know what you think will happen with this i would REALLY appreciate it.

I find it hard to believe it's a felony, but if they knew and "let charges build up", I doubt it will get far in court. Wait and see if you're (or your parents) are contacted by police. I wouldn't worry about it too much. They have to prove you knew it was fraudulent.

Just remember for future reference, the old saying, "There's no such thing as a free lunch" is true.

Why would your dad be the one getting in trouble if YOU are the one using a fraudulent code??
Did you know the code was a "hack" to get out of paying for a car wash?
And you may want to provide your state so the officers can tell you how many years you'll spend in prison.

Sounds like theft of services. Something tells me this 'free code' wasn't supposed to be handed out and used by a bunch of non-employee friends.

Don't see how it would be a felony, just a bunch of misdemeanors...

You knowingly took a code, never intended for you, and intentionally and knowingly used such to get a service, without paying for it. We call that theft here. You had no problems using it.....until you got caught! I don't believe your story that you have had the code in your head since sumer and only tried to use it once. I think you have had it for a while and used it multiple times.

Don't be scared....its not dad who will have to deal with them....its you! You knowingly broke the law. No stand up and take whats coming like a man. There are folks your age all over the world wearing a uniform, protecting this country who are not freaking out at bullets and bombs being directed to them. Head over to the local police and fess up what you know and what you did.
-In God we trust. All others, put your hands on the car and don't move.
