I used to think gun buy back programs were silly...until this....

200+ weapons collected at gun buyback event | azfamily.com Phoenix

What percentage of the population can identify with this quote from a recent $50 gift card recipient? I don't even know where to go with this one.....

Mindy Gonzales heard about the event Saturday morning and decided it was the perfect way to safely get rid of her rifle.

"It just doesn't belong in my house and to be honest with you my husband is in prison and he's going to be out and we're not allowed to have a firearm in the house," she said. "This was the safest way to get rid of it as opposed to putting in a dumpster and having somebody find it."

It's a good way to get rid of junk guns though.

Hey! I like my junk guns!!! (I used to have a Hi-Point 995)

Buybacks are only an excuse to send perfectly serviceable firearms to the smelter. No thug/criminal is going to part with a piece to begin with; they're too valuable.

Bridgeport IIRC, had a buyback some time ago... a lot of really, REALLY nice guns were marched off to their demise.

200 firearms collected at what cost?

    $50 per?

    That's $10,000 so far...

How much did it cost to fund the personnel needed to run the collection site? What about advertisements for the event? How much is it costing to transport the firearms for disposal, and how much is it going to cost to dispose of the firearms?

That money adds up, and it could have gone into a training or logistics budget for either police, fire, or EMS personnel.

As a tax payer, I prefer to fund better training and better equipment for our societies first responders, rather than offer "free" money to idiots too lazy to lawfully sell unwanted firearms.

Gun buy back programs are not silly, they are downright ludicrous.

I have heard its been done before but I would set up a table right next to the buy back offering more money for the nicer guns. Hows 100 dollars sound for that Weatherby you inherited from Grandpa sound as opposed to 50 bucks? For a grand you have the potential to get some great deals.

I have always wondered what I will do with my husbands guns when he dies. I would keep a shotgun for the critters and maybe a handgun just in case I decided to CC. But where I live and w/ my 2 large dogs and 2 inside yappers plus the chickens and the braying jackass, I seriously doubt I will ever need or want his gun collection...

Somehow I think I would be in trouble if ever said that out loud about my wife's crap.
