I do not understand how

you guys handle some people on the job.

I know this kid who is immature for his age, and I feel like he is trying to become a police officer for the wrong reasons. I finally saw this and had to say something, and I know he'll have something to say in the morning to me.

How do you guys handle these guys, or how do you get them weeded out?

So they haven't been given the job yet and think they are going to be LEOs just because they put themselves through the academy?

Have they taken the psych test, lie detector, and all the other screenings yet?

Fortunately , the hiring process is thorough enough that people like this have a hard time actually getting hired.

From what he said to me yesterday when I saw him for the first time in forever, no to the hiring (and so no to others then too).

I think just him having a waiver might make him think this way, I really can't stand this kind of stuff in general, especially his friends comment.

Yeah, I rely on that. Im glad the hiring process is difficult. I feel like people do not realize that hiring in policing is held to a hire standard because of the job description.

It makes me mad whenever I hear "I want to be a cop to sleep/have power/do what I want/make money." I hope some people are not able to jump through these hiring hoops.

Guys like this do get hired unfortunately, but they either get a real wake up call and change or kicked to the curb...At some of the small departments around here with low standards they won't get canned, they'll just never work anywhere else decent.

That is sad, he deleted my comment. I just told him he needs to look at the reasons why he wants to be a police officer, mature more, and reminded him he is not an LEO.

Pick your battles, and by that I mean, so what if he deleted your comment. If he's as immature as you say did you expect any different? You can't change ANYONE other than yourself, so just move on. You're wasting time on this guy that is NEVER going to get or appreciate what you're saying. You can always wonder how he can't get it, but I would give up worrying about it and absolutely give up any attempts at trying to change it.

And who gives a hoot if he learns. When did he become your responsibility? I mean, seriously, a post on FaceBook has you this riled?

You're right, Its one thing that I am pretty good at is moving quickly to another thing, and I know that i s key in policing.
