If I had been caught on film doing this to my child the only thing that would have beat me to the jail would have been the flashing lights on the patrol car!!!

Part of the problem is you have to prove injury. No matter what the video shows, if you can't prove actually injury to the person at the end of it, it can't be prosecuted.

OK SGT, technically I agree.. For me it is an emotionally charged issue! Been there done that as in exact same fashion and the verbal abuse issue too. When I turned 12, I had enough! I yanked the belt out of my dads hand and punched him in the face and told him don't you ever, ever hit me again! One week later I left home.

I will say some whipping's were justified but most were not! The best thing I ever did was leave home and stay out of trouble and become a successful person.

When he was on his death bed dying of cancer, we were talking and he said "I don't know how you came out on top. All my other kids are total ****ups's." Ya know, I told him, I purposely made it my soul mission in life to prove to you, that you were wrong about everything you said I would turn out to be! I let him know that was my revenge, however bitter sweet it was!

Also in retrospect, those beatings might have shaped my character and tenacity for success.

The real tragedy in these type of situations is they do not always end in a success story, and one of the bigger tragedy's is, this woman's father, a judge has brought disgrace upon the justice system. It is just another example of abuse of power by those who govern.

Trouble is, Stephanie, the law is all about technicalities. That separates us from totalitarian regimes where where people are prosecuted for what the government "thinks" they may have done.

I worked child abuse for a number of years and understand maybe more than you may realize about the trauma caused by it. Show me a school yard bully and I'll show you a kid that's getting his butt kicked at home all the time. It's all about teaching kids about what power is and sometimes it's the wrong message. But we can't try people on our personal emotions. The girl is grown now and has the choice of being away from him.
