Oh, that's great, Samuel! I like Randy Newman anyway, but that's a funny video!

Yes, Sir. That's the purpose of the three month long training. Leadership in Police Organizations (LPO). I feel very lucky to have been selected to attend with two other lieutenants from our agency. Learned during orientation day that you better check the ego at the door and open your eyes to the responsibility to develop yourself by actively developing future leaders under your command.
They are hammering that this is not going to be a supervision or management course.
Its objective is to develop a continuing life style in leadership with focus on the future. Leaving a legacy by doing your best to instill a continuing chain of mentoring, coaching and personal growth to those who will follow your footsteps for generations.
Talk later, already late for my start of day. (I tend to get very excited about this topic!)
This career is not a sprint, it is a marathon.
Ego is the biggest problem among command in my old agency. We tended to promote on a reverse Peter Principle. Instead of someone capable rising to a level of incompetency, too many times people would be hired and find that although they had the minimum requirements, they weren't very good at the job of being a cop. So they started taking tests in order do a different facet of the job. Some actually were better commanders than they were cops, but not many. I do have to say that though that I saw some good cops make sorry lieutenants though. They tried to run their command the way they dealt with people on the street. Not many, but a few I can recall were like that.
I learned my command skills under fire, literally and thought for a while of doing some upward mobility in my agency. But after they made me an acting Lt for a while in drugs, I dropped that idea like a hot rock. I could do the command job, I couldn't stand dealing with my peers. Everything was about their own careers and empire building, the actual mission was way down the list. It was just the culture that was embedded there and I didn't have the diplomatic skills to navigate it.

Hey Sirs,
You are welcome to beg/borrow/steal anything I/we have.It would definitely be good to see something new/updated (did you see those green PT shorts?!
)! Btw, the Asian guy on the ATV on the beach is now our Undersheriff (#2 man) and will probably be our Sheriff at some point in the future.
